Anybody know where I can get a pair of keyed alike locking fuel caps? I have a Transfer Flow aft axle tank, so I have two fillers behind the little round door. I don't have a problem with people stealing fuel. I want to prevent people from adding fuel. Ram diesel club and quad cabs here are just about the number one stolen vehicle. They are used for running drugs and human trafficking across the border. Diesels are preferred because they can fill up in Nogales Son. and make it to Phoenix and back on one tank. I want to make it as difficult as I can. :eek:

The media does not report how bad the cross-border crime is here. #@$%!

T.J violence.

Here in San Diego we're getting plenty of news on the carnage in Tijuana. A co-worker's daughter,a resident of Tijuana, had her car hijacked last week. When she initially refused she was pistol whipped. She's living up here now. Two surfer's were out at Baja Malibu on the coast south of Las Playas. Their girlfriend was sitting on the bluff when two guys showed up and put a knife to her throat and said "give us the keys". She complied and one brand new Tundra 4wd with all the guy's tools in the back(fools) belongs to the cartel or whoever now. The police down there are terrified and justifiably so. If you know of anybody using drugs,beg them to stop. This violence is based on a portion of our society's lust for drugs. :{

Do you have to hold down the clutch to start the truck, if so put a kill switch in it. Some here have tied into it and without the clutch in and the switch on it won't start. I am not sure if you have that with a 96, may be wrong. Maybe interrupt the circuit between the ignition switch and the starter?

Order them from Stant or your local auto parts store. A note of caution though. If they take your truck the cap doesn't mean jack. The cap can be opened without a key or damage in less than 10 seconds on my '07 and mid '90's Ford's.

Kill switch is the way to go. Add a relay if the amperage is greater than the switches capacity.

I have Fish hooks soldered behind and around the radio in my Rig, I can't wait till some lucky person grabbs the back or the side of the radio to only Surprise them with Hamburger meat for fingers when they shread and rip them apart as they Panic.

I would like to add a KillSwitch somewhere not under the dash and add some hooks under there too, especially when the Local P. D. wants to mess with me and un-lawfully search the Rig, they too will be in for a Surprise.

Gloves or no Gloves :)

If you are worried about some one stealing your truck and then being able to fuel as the run (which sounds like your worry) keep them from stealing the truck in the first place. Kill switch or something along that lines.

The fuel cap, even a locking one is not going to deter a half *** determined thief.

The are only good to stop the random fuel thief or vandal (sugar in the tank).

I got 2 caps at Auto Shack I think it was but they was not keyed alike. Oh you might want to talk to Transfer Flow on their tank. I have a 70 Ga. cross bed and it needed cap listed for FORD how embarrassing!!! The caps only keep mostly honest people honest. My clutch switch went bad and at this time, quick fix, I cut the wires and wire nut together. Be simple to add a kill switch but I think have to be a heavy one as I believe it carries the current for starter solenoid kinda of high but not huge though.

I got a locking fuel cap from Genos. When I was in college there were several incidents of fuel being siphoned from trucks. At the time it cost about $140 to fill it up, didnt want to lose that.

I lost 400+bucks of fuel between my main tank and the 100 gal transfer tank at a farmers market nearby. Ive since put a cap from Genos on the main and a special lock borrowed by my buddy from work at the rail yard for the transfer. The railroad gets these hardened locks you cant cut with a bolt cutter.

During the fuel problems in LA in1973, when the bums found a locked tank they just poked a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank and drained what they could in their containers and let the rest flow to the ground. I never locked mine, I put an insulated wire around the fuel cap and ran the other end out of sight, kinda looked like an alarm. . Never had a problem. Charlie

Jacobs Ignition Systems addresses the problem of theft and hijacking very well imo. I realize we don't have gas-engine ignitions, but the reasoning and function of their system is very sound.

Many folks are not aware that a simple hidden kill switch may save their vehicle from being stolen, but it will also let your insurance company weasel since the vehicle was NOT moved, despite all the damage to your interior and windows, etc. It will be viewed as vandalism; not theft.

If you are carjacked, say at gunpoint, if you activate a kill switch it is no different than turning off the ignition and taking the key out. There's a good chance an angry jacker just might shoot or stab you.

The Jacobs system allows your vehicle to be started and driven... for about 100 feet or yards (I never tested mine). Then it kills it dead. Now it IS "theft" and you have had a little time to get away. The thief may even think it is just a junk truck or out of fuel.

So a time-delay kill system is what I would recommend for those who live next to the amigos or anywhere else where there aren't enough armed and carrying citizens to deter crime.

That sounds like a good way to go. Do you have a link to Jacobs Ignition System?

Stant sells carded pairs that are keyed-alike - got mine at Checker years ago. In fact, got real lucky by visiting a couple different stores, found 2 sets keyed-alike so all my vehicles use the same key. :)

Jacobs Electronics :: Instruction Sheets

That was an interesting search for their website. They have apparently been bought out by Prestolite Performance along with Accel, Mallory, Hays, and a host of other formerly independent performance parts manufacturers. The Jacobs 'Home' link takes you to Mallory... Jacobs made the hottest and most efficient ignition systems (years ahead of their time) on the market back in my hotrodding and Chevy gas-engine 4x4 days. My K30 still has their system on its 454.

I really doubt if Jacobs has any product for diesel engine vehicles. Their kill/safety system is built into their ignition 'brainbox'. But the delay feature/concept is something that a clever electronics whiz should be able incorporate into an alarm or panic system that also works on diesels.
