I Have A Buddy That Has A 99 Ex-cab S/b Single Wheel W/ The Rear Locking Diff. He Wants To Remove The Locking Diff And Go To An Open Diff. Anybody Know What He Has To Do Or What Parts He May Or May Not Need?

Nobody has any ideas? Is it a limited slip or did someone put a locker in? If it is a Dana 80 and a Detroit? I'll trade my open diff with 3:55 gears. I'll do all the work to.

If it's a stock truck, he's got a limited slip, not a locker.

In any event, he'll need an open diff carrier to replace the carrier (either limited or locker) he's got. Probably not a bad idea to consider new seals and/or bearings. It'll be a partial gear set up as well.

Edit: Oops... . forgot that he'll probably need a set of side and spider gears as well.

exactly. The factory option is a waste of money. Take the factory open diff, save 400 bucks and lock it when you get it home. Stronger and more reliable. I love detroits, wouldn't really use any other.

The more power you have the less time the "limited slip" stock rear will last. I got about 25 passes (1/4mile) and a couple of hundred miles before all new limited slip clutches were junk. The detroit locker is very nice but it is squirrely on wet roads especially when you are turning. :-laf
