Does anyone know a source making a lockout hub for the current model 2500 4x4. I just bought a 2001 and have learned the front universals and carrier assembly turn all the time. What a waste of energy to turn all these moving parts! Also accumulating wear all the time whether 4 wheel drive is wanted or not.

Good Luck

If you search through the older threads you will find a company named Dynatrack (I Think that was the name) that makes a replacement axel if you can afford it. I think they might be making a conversion kit as well by now.

I have been bugging Warn Industries off and on about making a conversion kit but they don't see that there is a market for them.

don't know about the lock out conversion and would probably be very expensive! but might i suggest a 2low conversion this will allow you to have a two wheel low! look on the tdr and you can find the info. can't remember where at the moment.

I called dynatrac. They mak a kit for 99 and older and are working on the 2000+. The older model kits run $1595. They said 2-3 mos until its available for the 2000+up.

FWIW,

Dont shoot me for this.

Is it possible to install brand F parts from the ball joints outward? The f series has lockouts. In the past I have changed axle parts from brand to brand, stub shafts, stering knuckles, hubs, and brake calipers, but it has been on 70s model trucks. Maybe someone here has tried it,or has more input.

something to investigate!

Why would you want to keep it from turning? It keeps all the pins lubricated, and no flat spots from being in the same postion for thousands of miles.

My dad has 240,000 miles on a 95 ctd 4 X 4 and has never had to replace a u joint yet. He is a cattle rancher and is in the mud and pulling up to 18,000 lbs regularly.

Then you would have to get out o put in the hubs :--)

lock outs will free the axles from turning all of the time. this will free up the truck on the road using less power less wear and tear on the front end, better fuel mileage and longer tire life.
