I like many of you are tired of the govt creating rules that do things like locking our your nav controls on you vehicle so you travel safe.....the heck with that. I would like my passenger to be able to have full access of all features in motion.

Lock pic I think is making devices for the 2107 now to control all of this but I am thinking there is probably a simple wire cut that will prevent the unit from knowing you are moving like the aftermarket unit I put in my 2003. Just didn't hook up the "purple" wire and bingo, all features worked while moving.

Has anyone figured this out on our newer trucks or had experience with the lockpic

Interesting... I didnt know this was an option because I too think its stupid that the passenger cant do anything with the NAV system while I'm driving...but we can all mess with the radio buttons, DVD player, etc... o_O

From what I just read its coding in the unit, thats why they look to be providing hardware that has been reprogrammed. It's not an aux wire that you can cut so it most likely not an easy cut and run. Maybe its off the CanBus or something.

If you are familar with a jailbreak on something like a smartphone, it allows custom programming to a locked down OS.

People would jailbreak phones, tablets, anything with an OS so they could do their own thing. I never really cared that much but early on some smartphones would only work on certain carriers so folks would jailbreak them and make them able to be used other carriers. It alwasy seemed like a headache. But if you wanted the latest tech and had to have it your way, its always been an option.

But for $500 I would expect these systems to be pretty clean anymore.

The newest Samsung S9 is around $799, so in comparison the $500 is not that bad of a deal.

IMO all of the factory dash NAV stuff is sub par to the Google and Waze, it works Ok, but why the mfg waste developement of systems that are readily available and easier kept up to date I'm sure its a licening thing and big Tech wants too much up front for the $ or something.

Sounds like its easier to simulcast Waze from your phone if its just the Nav stuff you want to input.
