SWB for me. With the LWB either my Ram or my HD would be outside. It is was an easy choice for me. Now they are both inside. I like the looks of the SWB as well. I always have room for what I haul around. My trailer is a toy hauler type so I am not suffering for space. Either way you will love it. If I was to go LWB I would go dually also.

Great! Now we can debate w or w/o dually. #ad

Hi, my name is Steve, and I'm a... well... . owner of a short bed. Does size really matter? Did I just say that?

Only thing I haul in my own fat "A". Wanted a LB but with a quad cab it won't fit in the garage.

Which raises another question: When the crew cab comes out (The true 4 door), I wonder if the bed sizes will still be the same? Would like to own one and use my existing topper. Yes it will be another SB, but maybe this time with 6 gears.

I'd hate to give my 99', It's a great truck!

An eight foot bed is a TRUCK
anything else is classed as a PICK-UP
if you have a flare side you have an outomatic load limitter (Dealers way of making sure you don't break it) #ad

I have the SB. Was concerned that it would be a problem pulling the 5er, but nope, no prob. The slide hitch may be needed someday, but havent had to slide it back yet.

Truthfully though, if you dont mind manuvering in tight places with the long bed, I would go for it. I miss the capability of adding the 60 gallon tank under the bed (which you cannot w/ the SB), and will probably miss the lost room from adding an in-bed tank.

It really depends on if you mind turning the long bed truck around in tight places or not. Either one will do the job, just the extra room would be nice.

I have a long bed extended cab that requires me to put my front bumper against the back wall of my garage to be able to close the door behind it #ad
.

That said, having owned a short and a long bed truck, I'll never go back to the short box. It is really nice to be able to put a 4X8 sheet of plywood between the fender wells and be able to close the tailgate...

I guess for some the length of the bed makes up for the lack of length elsewhere!!!!!!!!!

Given the choice, I'd take long bed but, my truck was a leftover 98 12v. It is a 5spd, short bed, club cab instead of QC, and it be black, so I got a good price on it. I miss the longbed of my '95 but not the auto transmission. We're looking at buying a 28-30ft 5th wheel and anticipate the limited backing abilities. Shouldn't be a problem.
Loading other stuff hasn't been a problem either. I've had 3,300 lbs of elevator test weights in it several times. Hauled some fence sections home from home depot that wouldn't have laid in an 8ft bed anyhow. Haven't had to load the Harley in it yet. That'll probably be the only disappointment.

Short bed here-for a very real reason-I 4wheel in Colo. /NM as often as I can, and a quad cab/long bed wheelbase WILL get into a jam on some of the trails I get into going fishing/etc. I would normally have a long bed for the 5er/hauling a** around, but not when my intended purpose for this truck is for the boonies! Plus I like the looks of the shorty better...

Well this is interesting, what dif does it make, I choose short bed because I needed a truck that could haul a 3 horse trailer up and down the Sierra Nevada mountains. I like being able to park most places and if you think a truck is only for loading heave loads try following me up Carson pass (8,200ft. )with 8,000lbs of horses. My 2500 has the camper pkg. with a dana 80 rear end, sway bars, factory overloads IE the 3500 axle, rancho 9's shocks and 315-75-16's on ultra alloys. It is most definatly a truck!
