My 95 idles at 500-600 rpms but starts w/o pedal, hardly turn the key and its going, have never owned a vehicle that starts this well, even in cold weather w/o plugging it in, i've never had to use pedal to start.
 
I agree with the engine racing with no oil pressure quote, that scares me a little, I will try the idle speed adjustment first.

I had some long cranks times since I have owned this truck. But, I would also have stalling problems when the AC is on, especially after a long hot highway run. This summer I finally turned the idle up a little. No more stalls. Faster starts. I will have to admit that the long cranking does act kind of like a pre-oiler.
