I will be moving RVs up and down the Alaska highway all winter. I sleep in my truck at temps to -60, will need some heat. My choices:

1. Run the engine at high idle all night.

2. Run a generator with the block heater plugged in and some sort of electric heater in the cab.

3. By an Espar coolant heater for the engine and air heater for the cab (expensive).

Opinions?

My opinion, don't run the Alcan all winter. Sorry, couldn't resist. I made a run to Anchorage early Spring, Yukon heated up to only -25. Anchorage kids run around in short sleeved shirts when it reaches zero, it is considered balmy by them. Seriously, get the ESPAR, for what we do it or something similar's really the only practical answer. So that takes care of 7 or 8 thousand dollars US, now whatcha gonna do bout AIR? Right now I shag for Bennett, are you independant or who you leased with? Several of JET, Inc's drivers have the RoadMaster sleeper rigged with an Onan gas generator for electric heat & a roof mount RV A/C. I got the heat in the bag, still looking for my A/C solution.

I got a real sweet contract with a local dealership. I will be pulling a 53 foot hauler with two travel trailers. My daughter will pull up 5th wheels. She puts her rig on the trailer when we head back down.

I love the Alaska highway in the winter. No road construction, dust or tourist to slow me down. Since I live up here, the cold does not bother me. Yes, sometimes weather will slow me down but I have been shut down several times this summer due to fires and road work.

had my reflash done 3 weeks ago by just asking and then providing tsb number pretty warm in san antonio no complaints about not cold enough from dealer may because i just told him the truth if its good enought for heat up north ought to be good enought for ac down south

oh and for the guy who said cummins dosen't want you idling your truck they also don't want any bombs on it more but we most do that too
