Saturday, I did about the stupidist thing I have ever done. While changing my oil I was trying to take off the filter. It was extremely stubborn and the filter pliers kept slipping on the skirt of the filter. I finally got some rope and twisted it around the handles of the pliers to get a better grip, but eventually that slipped too. I was only able to get about 1/4 of a turn and couldn't go any further. OH NO! I realized that I was tightening instead of loosening. I couldn't get it to move anymore and even drove a screwdriver through it to get a better hold and it still didn't work. So I went to Sears and bought a 12" chain wrench. That worked like a charm but I still felt really stupid. Just remember, you are looking at the filter backwards. if you go CW the filter will go down, CCW makes it go up.

Also while checking over everything under the hood, I found my blow-by bottle laying on top of the cross member at the bottom of the radiator. The fan had nicked it a few times but there weren't any more holes in it. I just took it out and let it drip right there. It has for how many miles now? I will probably get around to extending the line now since I don't have the bottle in it.

You are not alone... I have to think about it every time I change the oil filter!

Here is what I did for a "too tight" filter one time...

Took a screwdriver and a hammer, chisel the top of the filter at an angle so it will "drive" the filter around in a circle... not down, but around. Gentle enough to not hurt anything, but hard enough to loosen it. This method will avoid spilling oil on your ram.
