Well the rain finally stoped and I was able to get allot done on my Crew Cab convertion. When I started swapping the exhaust I found chunks of black crud (soot I think) Is this normal or is there something wrong?

I'm guessing it's been sitting a while...

all that's happening is the soot built up on the wall of the exhaust pipe has come into contact w/ water/condensation and falling down to the bottom of the pipe...

I know my exhaust had a crap-ton of soot buildup in it! LOL!

I'm an old muffler shop owner. When an exhaust sits for a while, it is common that the "curd" on the wall of the pipe flakes off... even on a gasser. It is normal and will blow out the first time you drive the truck.

Cool, I was a litttle worried. The pile I endend up with out of the head pipe was enough to fill a small coffe can. The truck had been sitting for two years before I bought it in december, only seeing idle time, However that will change soon!

Thanks for the replies, This is my first diesel, and I have much to learn.
