Hey folks,

Well I've gone and done it. I'm looking at a 01 Xtd Cab, 4x4 Manual Long bed. I've got a few questions that I'm hoping that you current owners may beable to enlighten me about...

Currently the truck is at the Dodge Dealership in Layton UT, has any body had good/bad luck with this dealership?

Next, the truck currently has 34,136 on it, the steering is AWLFUL!!! The thing was so over the road, that when I drove it down the highway, I took the next exit! I've heard about you guys replacing the steering shafts, is this what I'm experiencing??? The truck would pull in one direction, I'd counter and the truck would nearly DIVE in the direction of the correction, this was an ongoing problem with the truck.

Next, there is a decent amount of oil seepage on the oil pan. My 94 with 142,000 miles is NO where near the leakage as this truck.

I'm just wondering if there is anything that I should look for in this truck. Its current selling price is 25,995 and I don't think they are buding much on the price, but I'm getting 9k to 9,300 for my truck. I'm stripping it of everything I think I can get away with.

Well any suggestions would be great. And if anybody knows of a truck that matches this discription someplace in Utah, let me know. I don't really like the color of this truck, but its what I've been looking for.

Thanks,

Corey

I'd bet it needs a Track-bar... $150 part. Should be under warranty at that mileage.

The puke bottle is probably full and has blown all over the motor. . most likely nuthin big but check it out.

At that price make them fix all of it. It's still under the bumper to bumper warranty so they'll get money from DC to fix it.

5spd or 6spd???

You'll love it and owe 8k less than if you'd bought it new.

Good luck,

Mark

Corey, Don't deal with this dealer!!! E-mail me if you want more info. GO up to Carrigan Dodge in Morgan. You find them not only friendlier but a heck of alot better to deal with if there is any warrantty issues...

Check www.dodgeram.org they have a website for the dealership you are inquiring about.

Corey, the 2002 have the same problem. Mine wanders on the road. My daughter will not drive my truck. She says it is dangerous to drive. Just don't hang onto the stearing wheel and you should be fine. It constantly drifts all over the road. When you hit bumps, the wheel has a mind of its own.

Corey, The oil change artists in Utah are S... LOPPY, O... ily, B... ad. They let the oil drizzle down the engine and think that's the way to change oil. They leave a mess all over the engine. They should take lessons from an Acura dealership. The engine is just as clean after an oil change as before. They are very meticulous. They treat the cars like it was their own. But Spiffy Lube just drizzles that oil for a quick buck.

Have you tried www.carsoup.com or autotrader? Carsoup has a lot of vehicles from other dealers on their webpage. Check it out before you buy, you may find the same vehicle with the color you desire.

Good Luck,

Blair:)

Corey,

I would figure out what the total cost would be at their finance rate and then check on a new one. The present finance rates are 1. 9/2. 9/3. 9 for 36/48/60 months or 2000 cash back. I paid 32,100 for my new 5spd in feb. I got about everything except cab lights, leather, infinity stereo (aftermarket stuff is much better), and snow plow package. I think you can get a brand new truck for not much more than the '01 would cost you if you do some shopping. With the new trucks you also get the 7/100k warranty.

As far as the Trans in the 01, its a 5sp. I really wish it was the 6sp. And as far as my truck, the main reason I was looking at trading it in vs. selling it is I can gut the truck of everything I put into it with out feeling bad and having to dicker and deal with somebody for misc. parts. If I could get a good price on my truck with out having to mess with trying to keep things I put on it, I'd go that route. Plus this is kind of a spur of the moment thing. I've been considering for some time, but just had to wait until the house thing was done.

I'm currently looking through a "truck trader" mag and I've found quite a few better deals. I really didn't want to spend much more than 20k on a truck, and it doesn't really have to be a 01, just as long as its what I'm looking for.

After reading your guys posts, I think I may avoid this truck. I didn't get a good feeling about it when I drove it, so no reason to jump into something I don't really NEED.

Thanks,

Corey

Corey, Too bad you weren't in the midwest. I just saw an add today for a 97 4x4 auto ext. cab for $15,900. I thought that was a pretty good price by the way it looked but I don't know how many miles are on it.

:D Check out Dave Smith Dodge in Kellog Idaho. Got mine fully loaded for $28,800 brand spankin new, with all the options. :D

Corey look around at price, options and model year. I would prefer the 6 speed. We tow a horse trailer and we like the 6 speed. We can hold the rpm better than with a 5 speed. We replaced our track bar at 30000 miles. The Truck did not track straight. I fixed the puke bottle on day 2 of ownership. One bottle of cleaner toget oil and grime off front of motor and pan. If I were to buy used again (2001 HO, 4x4, quad long bed with 23000 miles at purchase) I would look for a 2001. 5, HO and get the better disc brakes. We had under warrenty a track bar, and transfer case replaced (T-case was full of metal). Brake shoes were filthy and needed adjustment. Have your dealer repair all gripes under warrenty, change all fluids and filters. Start from a known baseline. Some guys are quoting some prices cheaper than any I see in Alaska, ie Dave Smith. Happy hunting, Rememberr that dealers want to make money on trades and on the sale.

:D I got the paperwork that can be shown for the price I paid for my truck new. $28,800. I did tack on a 100,000 bumper to bumper warrranty with pushed it to $30,000 but the truck was at that price. :D

Corey, Did you think about selling your 94 yourself? I sold my 95 with 199000 miles on it in 3 days. I got 11k for it. Just a thought. Jeff
