Mr. XCX,

If you are going to have to pay in the vicinity of $300. 00 for a new one and you would prefer a MUCH stronger, aftermarket, bumper, you might consider a Ranchhand, Brown's Welding or another product.

The stock bumpers have the structural integrity of a "beer can". They are there for looks, only.

A lot of the aftermarket bumpers are made with schedule 40 pipe as their main component. If you back into something or get rear-ended, they will hold up, much better.

If you choose this route, be sure that you are getting the "heavy-duty" product. Some of these companies are now making lighter weight "look-a-likes". You don't want those. You might as well get the strong ones.

Hope this helps.

Mr. XCX,

Another thing. If you decide to go this route and you want to use your trucks receiver hitch, make sure you tell them that so they don't send you one that hangs down over your hitch. They have different heights, or drops, of these bumpers. Some people like a dropped bumper and have 2"X2" receiver connected to the bumper, itself.

Just another thought.

Brown's Welding & Mfg., Inc. Bumpers?

Hi, RBattelle,

Thanks for your question regarding Brown's Welding & Mfg. bumpers. They are one of the many manufacturers of the heavy-duty bumpers that are seen all over Texas and elsewhere, now.

I have their front and rear bumper replacements on my '91. 5 W-250 and really like them. You don't see too many bumpers, like them, here in AZ.

I bought them because I often drive up to the White Mtn's. in eastern AZ, and there are a lot of deer and elk on the roads, after the sun goes down. That's what those bumpers were originally designed for (White Tail Deer).

Here's their info:

Brown's Welding & Mfg. , Inc.

You are right, though. There are a lot of bumper manufacturers out there, now.

Hope this helps.

Do they have a website? Can you snap a pic of your bumper for us?

Hi, RBattelle.

I just checked my bill and the literature I received from them and they don't seem to have a website. But, I bought these bumpers back in Sept. of '98. They may have one, now. A lot can change in 6-7 years. You might do a search.

Regarding a photo, I do not have a digital camera. Aparently, I'm living in another century! Sorry!

They look very similar to other products available from company's like Ranchhand (ranchhand.com). Mine were front and rear end replacements. The front has grill guards and headlight guards that wrap around the corner-fender by the headlight. The "wrap around effect" was engineered to push open "bump gates" without having to get out of the truck. At least, that was what I was told.

Hope this helps.

What does a rear bumper have to do with towing??? Won't a reiciever hitch fit below the roll pan? There is no way I would want to tow anything from a bumper ball on one of these trucks (too high, too weak, crappy turning radius)...

Good luck,

Dave

Ryan,

You can check out my Reader's Rigs gallery - the front bumper is a full replacement by Brown's Manufacturing, the rear is by Teitjens.
