I'm going to look at a 1998. 5 24v CTD 4x4 5spd. in a little bit;

what should i look for?

Is there anything that goes wrong on those?

Its got somewhere around 140-150k miles on it.

Lift pump, they are the weakest link. If they fail they can take out the expensive VP-44 injection pump. Be sure to check the codes with a proper reader before doing anything.

Also check the block to see if it is a "53" block. They have a tendency of cracking.

Most important is making sure it doesn't have the 53 block... . which it probably does being a 98. Check the oil & antifreeze to make sure that they aren't mixing together... . also make sure that the oil doesn't have metal shavings etc. Then check the engine while running... . watch the breather tube for excessive blowby. The bottom of the doors, rockers, fenders should be checked for corrosion or repaint. Make sure the transmission is working smooth & clutch is performing as it should.
