My 1996 truck had Arizona Paint Disease. That's an affliction where the continuing sunlight evaporates first the clear coat, then the base coat, and then starts to rust the steel. So I got it repainted in 2004. The paint on the roof did it again. So the body shop redid the roof. Then that paint turned blue. It was supposed to be green. So the body shop redid the roof.
Last weekend, it got down to 18F in my driveway. By Phoenix standards, that's rilly cold. The steel on the truck roof contracted, but the paint didn't. The paint came off in big sheets, all the way down to the steel. Turns out that all the repair work over the first repaint had been just that: over the repaint. :{
The good news is that I didn't have to strip off much paint to get down to metal! The bad news is that the roof of the truck is presently copvered in Rust-O-Leum brush on white primer to prevent rusting. (That was over a phosphoric bare steel treatment. )
The body shop has gone out of business. (Something about employees assembling cars after hours out of involuntarily donated parts. ) Any thoughts on what kind of paint to put on the roof? I DO NOT want to do base coat and clear coat again. I'd rather just polish out the old fashioned single stage acrylic now and then.
Any thoughts where in the West Phoenix area?
