Looking at 2004 3500, have some questions

Okay,

I'm looking for a quiter truck, I found a 04 3500 with 214,000 miles asking 12,000. The exterior looks good but when I started the truck it had a miss and then leveled out after several minutes (Jacksonville, FL 90 deg) I checked the codes with the key and found a 0628, 480, 483, I read in one post that that the CP3 might be leaking, etc...



What do you guys think?

With 214k it may be a money Pit, CR are $$$$ when things need replacing be suspicious.

If you go to the "3rd gen engines & trans forum 5. 9", at the top of the page the DTC's are listed.

0480 = cooling fan low speed relay

0483 = cooling fan speed

0628 = fuel pump



I would have an injector fuel return/leak down test performed, because of miles and the miss at idle, check the crankcase for fuel in the oil... indicating leaking injector.

Ask if those are the stock injectors?. Id like to know. Also see if he has retained the service records.

I'm pulling a CARFAX right now to try to find the orginal owner. The truck was a trade at a local dealership. Visually everthing appears to be stock except the tires. I am told the owner pulled a gooseneck horse trailer with it. I hope to be able to talk to the orginal owner.

Sounds like it was sputtering because the lift pump is heading south and of course it also looks like the fan has minor issues. Not big deals IMO but you could factor in the cost of an in-tank or other aftermarket pump when making an offer.
