Looking for something else when I found this:

Dodge 3/4 ton 3 sp w granny. new tires sunroof. 106xx miles on it's 360 8' bed club cab so many new parts it should never break donw again. I bought this truck and have replaced everything from the ecm to the fuse able links recently put in a fuel pump and got the vent hose in the wrong spot. so it starts runs (HEALTHY) for a few then dies like vapor lock. I know it is an easy fix but when you have put as much time and money into something u finally reach a breaking point so here I am on cl trying to get rid of it. this is a stout truck body strait never been wrecked. 4x4 tow package from hell and a lot of power.

So.....

I went to look at it today;

Club Cab 3/4 ton long bed. Manual trans, plain interior, manual transfer case, locking hubs, 360, A/C, and cruise control.

Truck has had some issues, he said the left front wheel had fallen off, and has been repaired. (Body damage at edge of wheelwell), someone put a sunroof in it, and he said the fuel pump is not pushing fuel. It wouldn't start, battery low from sitting.

My main concern was that the ECM has been replaced, he said truck ran after that, but not for long, because he had some $$$ issues. When I asked why computer had been replaced, he didn't know, just that is what he was told was needed.

Body and interior are good for age, I don't mind tearing into the axles, but the ECM issue makes me a bit nervous. It is a new or refurbished unit.

I copied the VIN, going to check to see how it was actually shipped.

Any thoughts on why it is having electrical problems? I shouldn't be looking, but I really like the looks of the 1st Gen Club Cab, and this one has minimal rust.

update:

Forgot to mention, it is a 1990. Talked to a service tech, and he said not unusual to ruin an ECM... . low battery, jump start mis-connect... or... .

He also said Dodge made 2 versions of the 3/4 ton truck, one standard and one heavy duty, I hope to get the VIN report back today, and find out if this is a real gem with the strong Dana axles.

Poor grounds, poor connections a the plugs, would be where I would start.

I thought they all had Dana axles. I had to use the code from the door sticker to find the axle rating on my "ex".

Apparently they shipped with 2 different rated front axles..... will find out later today.

And I agree, the connections have to be checked. The truck shows under 100,000, so it has been sitting a bit... . but appears to be unmolested under the hood.

All diesels should have the Dana 60 front (good). Most gas will have the 44 front. Gas will also have a 60 rear instead of a 70, and most gas trucks I've seen have 4. 10's but this one being a 4speed might have a better shot at 3. 55's.

If it's a 44/60 4. 10 4 speed truck with any problems, it's not worth much unless it's super clean. If it has a 60 front that alone will make it a better but because you can always sell that front to the right person for a decent price.

Dana 30/181 MM front axle. (Not sure what that means)

3. 55 ratio

According to the door sticker the front axle is rated at 3600 lbs and the rear at 4670 lbs.

GVWR 7500

eyyyyyiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee!!!!!! BACK AWAY SLOWLY!! DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT!! (unless it's dirt cheap, like $200)

The ECM is an easy fix, although I saw more coil and distributor problems than anything... . moisture would corrode the ends of the rotor and throw timing Waaaayy off! Just a thought, anway, good luck.....

So yer saying that is not really a heavy duty axle... . so the truck, if I can get him off his 4 grand dream price, outta be a pavement cruiser, with the 4WD saved for snow and stuff.

I offered him $1500. 00 cash, just because the body was so straight and rust free. His dad was standing there, thot he was gonna tell the kid to take it.

give him a few week's you just might end up with it at your offer Right now he think's it's gold . even at 1500 it's high if it has any kind of rust or troubles

I got a damn 8-lug 44-HD from that era by accident. schmuck at the online salvage yard advertised and shipped as a D-60. We had words. Got a large partial refund, and he didn't want it back, but I never used it, due to finding a matched pair of disc-braked D-60s.

Correct! Good info right there for anyone new to these trucks!

Not really following this, but I'm to assume that you are talking about a gas engine truck? 1990 (First Gen) 4x4 club cab??? You never said what engine so I'm guessing gasoline.

On my '91. 5's valve cover, cover, it says; 400 ft. lbs. trq. , 160 hp. 360 CID :)

Nick

Now that I didn't know..... woulda been more clear..... but... ... I brought home a fairly straight 66 D-200, last Friday. So, I have a running & driving project for now.

What I posted about the valve cover is true, but I was just being a "smart fart":-laf I knew what you were posting about was a gas rig. I was picking on BSchwarzli:D

You found a nice '66, Is it 318 powered? I forget the year that Dodge went from 315 (total different engine if I recall) to the 318.
