I am going to look a t a 2001 2 wheel dr 3500 HO . My question is what to look for on this truck ??? It only has 6700 miles on it. And also If I buy it I would put guages on it . But do you put the fuel pressure guage under the hood or on the pillar mount?? And if I put just injectors and a after market air filter and a bigger exaust will that be a notticiable change??? Just many Questions As you can see I have a first gen so big step here. Thanks

Justin :D

Justin,

1) Make sure you get the carfax report on it.

2) Look at the edges of all the body seams, they should be even.

3) Get a creeper and spend some time underneath looking for signs of damage.

4) Drive it on the freeway to at least 75 to check for wobbles and vibrations.

5) Check the tires for unusual wear patterns.

6) Look through the wheels at the brake rotors. They should be lightly worn with no big grooves.

7) Ask em why their selling such a great truck :D

Look for signs of all fluids being replaced recently. . i. e. fresh silicone on Diff covers etc... If all fluids changed you can bet your paycheck it may have been flooded so look for other signs rust under dash/carpets etc...

Also look for signs of previous bombs like EZ/Comp the connector for the EZ/Comp is under the fuel filter... should have a plug/cap on it if not it was most likely bombed and maybe abused if EGT gauges etc are not installed... .

Depends on which injectors. My advice is get at least DDII's. With DDII's your stock clutch *should* be ok, but you'll be right at the limit. With the II's you'll definately know they're in there, 3rd and 4th will need some respect on wet roads.

As for fuel pressure guage placement, I put mine on the shifter console, near the floor. I don't look at it all the time, just right after starting, and then every once in a while when I'm on the road.

Enjoy your new truck!
