pin weight too heavy?

We looked at them before we bought our TT and thought they were a nice rig. The construction of the rig seems to be right up there with the high dollar rigs. We considered getting one but they didn't have any in the size we were looking for.

I bought a '00 HR Aluma Lite fifth wheel back in Nov 03, we love it! In '00 HR had three lines, the Alumascape, Aluma Lite, and the Imperial. I think its the same for '99. The Aluma Lites have a little less flash then the Imperials and todays Presidentials but the constuction is the same for all, even on the new models. C-channel stucture not aluminum 2x2s', which eliminates cold gaps. Also the underbelly is fully enclosed, not just between frame rails. The ceiling inside has exta padding which helps deaden sound and provides better insulation. Best of all it pulls straight as an arrow, even with my 3/4 ton.

I have a 97 Alumiscape that we bought new in 98. It's a great trailer. 31' w/ a slide. We use it about 60 days a year. I think you will like it. My truck pulls it like a dream. Our trailer weighs 9000 lbs. I get 12 mpg pulling. On the steep windy stuff, pull in 2nd. TC locks up at about 30 and the truck really gets after it. I pull in OD on the level. Never let it get below 1500 RPM's w/o shifting down.

I am on the 2nd Holiday Rambler, this one is a '98 Alumalite 5th wheel. We have towed about 90000 miles with it so far, with the only problem being slide outs needing adjusting every year or so. Larry

hammersley,

In 1970 my wife and I bought a 32 foot Holiday Rambler to live in as newlyweds. It worked great for two years. We lived in it and towed it all over the country (literally). We finally sold it when the navy decided to let me stay in one place for more than a few months.

A few years ago we bought a 32 foot 1996 unit with about 100,000 miles on it. That one had been used by people who showed dogs for a living. We still own the 1996 trailer and still like it.

Holiday Rambler is one of the few brands with aluminum framing. I consider that a big advantage; it will never rot, even if the roof leaks. HR is a quality trailer. If you like the floorplan, you'll like the trailer.

The only other brands that I would consider buying are Airstream and Newmar. Airstream's reputation is excellent. I haven't learned enough about Newmar to have a strong opinion yet, but they seem to be well made too.

Our 1986 AlumaLite is holding up very well still no leaks the underbelly shows some age but other than that the trailer is still tight. In the last two years I had to replace the fridge 1K and the toilet 150 bucks but still happy with the purchase the trailer cost us 4500. 00 2 years ago we are the third owners. Just remeber when buying used you will always need to fix things thats just part of the RV game. :)
