I have been thinking about purchasing the TAG. I was on their website today and now I don't know which one to get. I just want something that will help me while towing my 28' fifth wheel. I am just looking to take advantage of anythiing which will give me a little more pulling power and maybe a couple extra mpg. Also, I don't know if I need the TAG, TAG II or TAG III.

I don't mean to start a discussion on why it works, or why it doesn't work, I am just looking for some real world experiences.

Any help y'all can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello, My truck is the 2004. 5. I read all I could find on net in reference to the tag. I purchased the TAG 3 (latest). Very easy to install my turbo seems to spool up slightly quicker. I didn't notice any diference to the egts. I've yet to tow with it. My truck with the tag, Banks exhaust and the Scotty Ram air III seems much more responsive than stock. I don't feel that it was a waste of money.

I've tried all 3. The Tag II seems to be best for spoolup and response, Tag III works better at higher boost levels such as when you are towing but doesn't seem quite as responsive on spoolup. I saw more EGT reduction with the III at higher boost levels. This is on my '96 12-valve.

I have a TAG... one of the originals. Although I believe in it, I have never dynoed my truck and I cannot say whether it's improved fuel economy. I also can't say if it's changed the turbo spool times or the "seat of the pants" feel of the truck. I have never taken the time to measure these things. I just installed it one day and I've never removed it. I like it because it should improve compressor efficiency a bit. Radial compressors are designed under the assumption of inlet flow perpendicular to the compressor face. TAG ensures that. I believe it serves the same purpose as that big plastic cross Dodge put in the intake tube, only much much better.

An efficient compressor is a happy compressor.

There is no shortage of debate, however, over whether the TAG is useful or not. In this monster there's an interesting plot on the last page.

I am happy with the TAG. I installed a TAG 1 in my 2003 and do see slightly more power when towing and overall faster turbo spool up. I noticed quicker acceleration when towing from a dead stop and can tow up hills easier with the TAG installed. I have also noticed that it worked better with the turbo silencer ring installed. I have not tried TAG 2 or TAG 3 so I don't know if they are even better than the TAG 1.

Don't know about TAG but I recently installed the Bullydog Downloader in the Tow mode for towing my 14k 5th wheel. I saw a really big difference in towing speed. Can't say I gained any mileage but the difference in towing is great. I only wanted a few extra HP and it gave me what I wanted. :D

Ditto on everything rbattelle said. This thread could easily become another debate, so I'll just answer your question about real world experience and seat of pants.

My S. O. P. meter tells me that it spools faster. My half-deaf ears tell me that turbo whine is decreased (I personally think that's a good thing on long trips with the fam).

The only real world towing comparison I can offer is that I pulled the same load up the same hill with and without the TAG at a fairly good altitude(~5,000ft) within days of each other, and could tell a very noticeable difference. With the TAG, it seemed like I could sustain a constant RPM for longer than I could without it. Without the TAG, RPMS fell faster.

You can easily get more bang for your $ using just about any other product out there. It's a geek bomb :p

Like Vaughn, I've tried all three and for my PDR HX40/16, the TAG-3 has yielded the best spoolup. If you've got a bigger-than-stock turbo, then you know what lag is and the TAG-3 provided a huge increase in spoolup for me. The increased mpg's, reduced smoke and lower EGT's are also a big plus, but the huge reduction in turbo whine is one of my favorite benefits of the TAG units. Check it out at www.dieselpowerproducts.com

I've also got pics in my reader's rigs galleries

Thank you gentlemen, I do appreciate your input. I think I am going to go ahead and purchase the TAG and see what happens. I would like to get the TAG III but the funds just aren't there right now.

Again, thank you for your information, it is greatly appreciated.

Alan
