Hi, my son is still looking for a 2014 used Ram truck with a Cummins engine. The deal fill through on the truck from KS, the dealer sold the truck before my son was able to get financing. So now he has located another truck in New Jersey this time and I was wondering if anybody could look at the truck for me, that is in the area?

The truck is is located at "Family Ford" in Netcong, NJ at intersection 183 and 30 New Jersey. The truck is a 2014, 2500 SLT Ram, short bed,Bright White, 6 sped auto, with 30,615 miles.

Jim, Thanks in advance.

no way would i get a east coast truck... but yes you can take the vin to carfax, or the dealer and see what's been done.

Jim - He just be able to pick up a left over 2016 for the same price or nearly the same price as the 2014. That's the very reason I bought new...... Used prices are stupid high

Fairly low miles for a 2014, its all about the price. Most 2014's have six recalls, would have to look ,but I believe that is what my 2014 Laramie has had. I too was in the market for a 2-3 year old truck until I started looking at new truck prices. It just didn't make sense to buy a used one.

Low miles ,and a decent price would make sense on that truck though.

Truck has already been sold, the dealer (Ford) was asking less than $34,000 for the truck.

Joe, my son has decided to wait until spring to look for a new truck, a suggestion from his wife I think. She wants him to buy locally since it would be easier to acquire and not fly/drive hundreds of miles to get. Every thing in our area is way higher in price compared to other areas of the country.

I was even asked by a neighbor if I would selll my 2008 to his son for $30,000. I said thanks but no thanks, I needed my truck for a tow vehicle for our 5ER. And I do not want car/truck payments now, since I am retired.

Jim

I am beginning to get a low-grade itch for a new one, although the 2013 has been great and very reliable. Maybe a sunroof, etc.

Maybe by the 2019's your condition will be full blown. All new RAM, 30 year anniversary Cummins/RAM and Cummins 100 year anniversary. AND exhaust will be treated down stream.

Anything to improve the emission systems on these Rams, they are troublesome at best. Talk to ANY tech at the dealership, and you will get an ear full. So far have talked to three of them ,and its the same story, pretty much a constant parade of trucks in for emissions related issues. DEF codes, bad sensors, bad converter etc. Was told by two of service techs, they hope its not a bad
converter , they were on back order. This was a dealer in Burley, Idaho, and the other was in Tremonton, Utah. That right there tells you the issues on these emission systems.

As crazy as it sounds , this is according to the techs I have talked to, when filling the DEF it will sometimes trigger a code, what it does is it runs a diagnostic test . Makes sense I guess.

I have to wonder how many of these issues require the fix that they are getting... I got some stupid DEF error code in my truck when I filled up the last time. I forget what it was, but its the one signifying bad DEF and apparently it "requires" dropping and draining the DEF tank for a couple hundred dollars. Stupid me, I just cleared the code and put another 5000 miles on my truck with nary an issue.

My gut tells me that these trucks are throwing codes for something stupid or inconsequential, and these "techs" don't know how to fix it so they just throw parts at it until the light turns off. Very few trained mechanics left who can diagnose a problem... most are people who are limited to plugging the truck into a computer and hoping for the best...

This is getting to be quite the issue, hearing more, and more about. Was your code P207F, thats the bad DEF code ?

Yup, that's one of the two codes that I got. Ram is recommending hundreds of dollars worth of work to "fix" the issue. I just cleared the code and kept on driving. Never came back, never had any issues.

Same here other then I did see a dealer ,and all was well, no recommendations for repair.
