Looking at an 05 Auto with 49K. How are the 05's doing out there? It looks like it has been very well taken care of. It is loaded and the price isn't bad. A new 08 isn't that much more in the scheme of things, but it seems the 5. 9L may be the way to stay for a while yet.

All you 05 owners let me know what you think!!

Thanks!!!

55K with no problems so far. Runs like a top and gets 17-21 mpg hand calc. My buddy traded his 06 for a 08 and I really love the new transmission with exhaust brake but he is getting 12-15 mpg. I will run my 05 till the wheels fall off.

That's what I like to hear!!! The mileage penalty is another reason I'm straying from the new ones. I suppose there are some 08's getting 20 mpg, but I bet it isn't easily done. The 05 I'm looking at has leather also. Man those Heated seats would be nice tomorrow with highs in the single digits!!!!

My 05 has been great! Bought new and have ~55,500 miles on it now. You can see my sig for the mods. I have taken very good care of it and it takes good care of me. I follow all the procedures in the service manual regarding maintenance. Only things I've been to dealer for were a very slight wetness on the front pinion seal and a clutch pedal switch that clicked every time I engaged the clutch. Both fixed under warranty. Other than that, very stout truck and I intend to keep it!

Good luck on your find.

Regards.

Find out if the lift pump has been put into the fuel tank yet. If not, it should be failing any time now, leaving you stranded. Should be fixed under warranty as long as you don't modify the truck. Also, have them do the most recent flashes if it hasn't already been done as part of the deal. You'll get the high idle function and some other stuff to clean up hard starts and white smoke, and supposedly it will help your MPG's as well.

My 05 with the NV5600 6 speed has been great. We made a trip to Alaska in 06 with my then Lance camper. The only thing I don't like are the weak headlights.

05's have the lift pumps in the tank from the factory. As far as the high idle and better mpg if you get the truck invest in the Smarty Jr. Better performance, faster starting, better mpg, high idle function in the program, ability to set the tire size, code reader and undetectable. What more can I say. :)

I bought an 05 used with 100,141 miles on it. I like it but it was abused.
needs a new turbo and had a new rear main seal replaced. Even with all of that I still really like the unit. It pulls great and I get 18 unloaded, no mods.

My 05 has been pretty good for the most part. Had some problems with Ball joints, but I think all the Ram Trucks do.

I'm pretty much going to keep my truck till it rusts off. I have about 52k on it right now

Purchased my '05 in fall of '04. It has 49,200 miles on it . It has never been back to the dealer. It has been trouble free and needed nothing more than routine maintenance. The seats are more comfortable than my '07 c&c .

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I was looking at this 05 to replace my 03 with 110K miles. I only lack a few payment on the 03 and it has been a great vehicle so I decided to keep it and have some work done and keep running it. We are going to have the injectors rebuilt and put upgraded nozzles and upgrade the lift pump since the original is still on it. Kind of figured I would rather replace the lift pump on my terms not the pumps terms. The other determining factor is my 03 gets 19. 75 mpg day in and day out in mixed driving of every kind and that is something I didn't want to give up. I know there are some 05's getting great mileage, but there are a lot not doing so great and I didn't want to take the chance.

Thanks again!!!
