Looking at buying a wrecked '90 4X4

A friend of mine has a '90 Dodge cummins powered, 4X4, 5 speed that he bought new. He is in a $$$ jam and offered it to me Cheap. He hit a deer on the freeway and it took out the front suspension and bent the front frame head. Engine (180,000 mi) is good, Transmission was rebuilt 3000. mi before the accident. He told me that the chain in the 205 transfer case had broke but it is repairable. It is a standard cab, long bed, 4:10 ratio rear-end. What do you guys think. I'm not a first- generation owner and would part it out. Chris

I bought it tonight. The engine compartment, radiator, A/C are un-touched. It had sat for 9 months... We hooked up the battery, cked oil and coolant (full) and the thing turned about three revolutions with the starter and purred. I am looking to re-sell it in whole or pieces. I would like to use the engine to do a re-power on a suburban or something but I have major back problems right now. Chris

I would like to know how the chain is broken in the 205 TC since it is a gear drive transfer case. Maybe the shift linkage was damaged in the wreck and you are having trouble getting it in gear.

Congrats on the Cheap truck!

Dan
