looking at ricksons wheels and michelin tires in the 245/70R - 19. 5

Here is the Wheel. a Forged Aluminum Rim but for that rim, the offset is 1. 45" off and it is that amount wider.

Here is the tire I want. It is a Michelin 245/75-19. 5 XDE-MS

#ad

The total of all 4 tires and 4 Forged aluminum Rims is $2600 + shipping Is this a good price or is there another place that is cheaper?

I will be getting a full set of 4 tires and wheels and would want to sell the fairly new stock tires (michelin E-rate tires) I have. I also will sell the forged rims.

How much would my 4 tires and rims... the tires with 5K on them be worth?

The used tries I would think would bring atleast 75% of what you paid for them (probably more). And I have seen the rims go for $75 before.

Nice to see someone else getting the Rickson's. :D Mine should be shipping out tomorrow-Mon. I bought my tires locally, the same ones you want. Maybe a little too aggressive for me, but what the heck, it's only money. I went with the steel 6. 75 rims, mine's just a work truck. I think we'll both be very satisfied with out purchases. I haven't heard one negative comment from guys currently running 19. 5's.

I did a little checking around, but I couldn't find anyone else selling 19. 5" rims to fit a Dodge. Maybe no one understood exactly what I was looking for, but they were very large reputable shops and they didn't handle them. Heather at Rickson said they deal with Discount Tire and Les Schwab (sp?) but I doubt they'd be any cheaper.

As far as what your old one's are worth, I ain't gotta clue. Anybody know what a set of 17" dual rims might be worth???

Eric, since our trucks have deep offsets finding alternate sources is difficult. I thought Alcoa was doing a 19. 5" wheel but only in offsets favorable to Chevy and Ford (they will stick way out on the Dodge).

For SRWs the offset is +40mm so the 1. 45" you mention sounds about right. Backspace on a 8" wide rim is 6".

I would get the wheels then buy the tires locally, it will save you a lot of shipping. Wherever you get your tires, I would see if Les Schwab can balance them because they have the Hunter (?) balance equipment that does it dynamically (with a load on the tires) for best balance.

I still ponder Rickson, I would only go with the forged aluminum wheels for sure to save weight, and would shop around for the lighter tires.

Keep us posted. I have some better wheel pics on my computer at work that Heather sent me last year.

Cattletrucker I expect to see some pics when you get yours mounted

Eric one other thought, you might PM Bill Littlefield, he got Ricksons awhile back. I haven't seen him on the board much recently but I see his dad pretty often and will ask him about them.

Vaughn

Thanks vaughn. I seen the prices of the tires but didn't think about shipping on the tires since I could get it locally... .

That pic of the rim was ok on my computer..... oh well...

I have regular E-range michelins..... Would the 19. 5's off-set make it look like a wide off-road tire? sort-of sticks out but not bad? then that would be acceptable for me.

Consider the balancing beads when you get the tires mounted up. I use Counteract, but I've also heard of Innovative beads. Permanent balancing solution, do a search there's been a few threads on here.

I have had Rickson's on my truck for over 170,000 miles with several different tread patterns and finally settled on the Michelin XDE-MS 225's. Rickson will tell you to get the 225's; better for stopping in the rain When you buy the wheels and tires from Rickson, they are match mounted and ride great. When you finally have to buy tires locally for the Rickson wheels, finding someone locally to match mount the new tires as good as Rickson is difficult (impossible). What I finally did was find a tire shop that uses Equal, 1. 5 bags per wheel, no spin balancing or wheel weights and I bought Centramatic wheel balancers for each wheel. Works great.

Eric,

You'll love the Rickson's. The peace of mind you get from driving on tires & wheels that are rated at twice the load you have on them is great.

I have a set of Rickson steel wheels which I recently removed from the truck because the Toyo tires are worn out. I got a good deal on four 17" wheels and tires from a neighbor, but when those tires are shot, I'll buy a set of the Michelins like yours and go back to 19. 5" wheels.

You'll save shipping charges if you buy tires locally, but you won't find anyone who will mount and balance them as well as Rickson. Rickson will do whatever it takes to make them right before they ship them. If that means dismounting the tire and turning it 90 or 180 degrees to get it right, they'll do that. Will your local tire dealer do the same?

Also, after they have balanced them as well as they can, Rickson mounting includes Equal balancing beads in the tire.

Last, Rickson's service is absolutely tops. If you have any problems, they'll do what it takes to make it right. What's that worth to you?

To my knowledge, you can't get 19. 5" wheels for our trucks from any source except Rickson. Lot's of drivers have been waiting for the Alcoa wheels for a couple of years, but they haven't produced any yet.

Good luck,

Loren

How much does it cost to have 5 tires and rims shipped?

I am considering the steel chrome. Even though they are heavier, the off-set on the Aluminum is too much for me... I will paint the inside of the wheels to prevent rust. I will also get the cetramatic balancing rings.

Eric,

Rickson and others who ship items by truck on a regular basis, get a discount from the freight companies. Rickson can ship you a set of wheels for substantially less than I can, for example.

You should get a quote from Rickson.

I didn't find that rust inside my steel wheels was a problem. They are powder coated and it seems to be an excellent job.

The offset isn't as big a deal as you might think. The Ricksons with 245/70R19. 5 tires stick out only about 1/4 inch farther than the factory aluminum wheels with 265/75R16 tires.

Also, I sent you a PM.

I went with the 245's 'cause I don't like my 4. 10 rear end. I wanted a little more speed. Haven't gotten the speedo reprog. yet, but I should have gained 3. 5-4mph at 60mph. Otherwise I would have gone with the narrower rims and the 225's. I hate checking tire pressure on the 6. 75 rims. They have the smaller holes so you basically have to find a heated shop and spend about 1/2 hour crawling around underneath. I should be able to find some different stems, more like the one on the front of a big rig, just haven't had a chance to yet.

I have the Equal balancing beads in mine, only 1/2 a bag for each tire. There are different sized bags and mine took 1/2 of the larger bags for each. Cost $39 for all 6, plus I saved some on the mounting charges. I've never had a set of "match mounted and balanced" tires, other than factory, and I've never had any odd vibration due to the tires. I figured the beads should take care of any problems and so far (50mi) I can't feel anyhting odd.

I was worried about the rear duals sticking out too far and throwing rocks at my spendy towing mirrors. They don't hardly stick out any farther at all. And they're not the rock picker's I though they'd be.

What's everybody running for tire pressure. The tires say 120psi, but I'm not going to max them out. I've got them all set to 100psi now. The fronts may be able to come down more, but I pull a trailer that, when loaded, weighs 25-27K, so the rears need to be fairly stiff. Any recommendations???

Tire pressure chart

According to this chart I should be running 75psi in my tires. Actually the chart doesn't go down low enough for the 245's. I didn't realize these were 16ply. Maybe shoulda gone with the 225's for a nicer ride. I'm gonna find a phone # or email address and see what I can find out. I ran my 17's at 70-75 psi (80 max) and those wore perfectly. Never would have guess I could run these that low.

Cattletrkr,

I don't know which wheels you have so yours may be different, but my Rickson steel wheels are stamped for a maximum pressure of 90 psi. This should be plenty to cover any load we are likely to have on our trucks, as you saw on the tire web site.
