2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Looking at some used 16" Alcoas

I found a set used for $350 locally. Any thoughts on what to look out for? He had them on a couple of his Dodges over the years. I'm looking at them for the strength primarily but not sure if they had different offsets that I should keep in mind.

Are they the drop forged one piece wheels like a M/T Challenger?

The Alcoas have a 4 1\2 back space and your stock 98 wheels are 4 9\16. But the Alcoas are 1 1\2 inches wider So they will stick out pass your fenders some. I didn't like the way they looked from the front and rear on other trucks so I didn't go with them. But they are good wheels.

Make sure the center bore is for the Dodge hub. My 3500 came with Alcoas for a ford, with a too large center bore. With the dually flat washered lug nuts there was nothing to center the wheels on the hub...

I have had Alcoas on my truck for about 7 years. Pleased with them but it's work to keep them clean. I believe some were recalled as well. They have a serial number on them and Alcoa can tell you if they were recalled.

Ahhhh, not neccessarily... . Alcoa made specific wheels for -'93, '95-'99 Dodges, and then '00-02. The later years came with . 500 increased back spacing for running larger tires..... If you can find the part number, let me know what that is, and I might can help you there... .

Good advice. The Ford center bore is 4. 88 inches, I believe.

The only recalls I am familiar with regarding Alcoa Light Duty wheels for the Dodge were for the wheel change for the increased backspacing in '00... . I don't think it amounted to much, other than tire spacing, and there were no defects in wheels..... I could be wrong, so someone speak up if they know otherwise... .



Alcoa wheels are the strongest on the road, bar none, anywhere in the world. PACCAR uses them exclusively on their Peterbilt trucks, and I have witnessed their R&D lab do some BRUTAL testing on their trucks, which had the same wheels on them. Granted, the Dodges are light duty, but I've never seen one of their wheels fail from general driving, either. I've got some on my '97, been there since '03, with @ 175k on 'em, both on road and off, loaded and overloaded, and I've never had a problem attributed to wheels. I've got other sets, but those have the most miles on 'em.
