Exhaust cleanup - tips to remove the yellow?

I live near Bloomington, Indiana and I am looking a tractor.

I'm looking for a tractor that will operate a 5' bushhog. I think something around a 30hp will work.

It can be 2wd or 4wd, new or used, with or without a front loader, etc... I might even consider a trade for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler, if I find one nice enough.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

Just sw of you in Vincennes.

I mow the local airport with my New Holland TC45 (45 hp) and pull a 14ft rigid Bush Hog easily. Of course the grass (weeds) never get tall so power is not a problem. I actually mow in road gear at about 12 mph. This model is equipped with super steer, 4wd, loader, hydrostatic drive. Very nice tractor, you can't go wrong with a New Holland.

Dave,

I took delivery of a new John Deere 5303 64 Hp Turbo Diesel with a 510 loader in December. The 5003 series is a new entry level ag tractor from Deere. They offer three models in this series, 5103 40 HP, 5203 50 HP, and the 5303. They are all powered by a 3-cyl JD diesel. The 5303 is turbo charged, and the other two are natural. They weigh in at around 4500# dry w/o loader.

I had originally intended to purchase one of the 4000 series compact diesels from JD, but this model was way too attractive. The 5003 series is actually much cheaper than any of the compact tractors. The base MSRP for the 5103 is something like $13999. I ordered my 5303 with the 510 loader, heavy duty bucket, ballast box, and all the bells and whistles. It was delivered to my door for less than 20K. A comparably optioned compact would have run in the high 20's for a much smaller tractor.

I'm not sure how large of a tractor you are looking for, but if you want something in this range, I would give these a look.

I love my New Holland TC29D @29 hp. The next one up is TC33 at, you guessed it, 33hp.

I was looking for the most tractor for the money. I initially was going to buy a Kubota (forget the model) but found the NH a much better value.

We bought a JD 4200 here at work about 2-3 years ago. More expensive than my tractor, 3 hp less and lacking several nice features of the NH TC series tractors. JD fans flame away!

Yeah but a New Holland is a FORD!!!!

JD's don't seem to be such a ripoff if you go larger than the compact/lawn&garden size.

I would consider a grey market Yanmar or the like. You can get a nice little diesel for not much $$.

The compacts ARE expensive. Hot items. Too many landscapers and homeowners want them, and willing to pay. Deere uses Yanmar diesels. Some of the tractors are basically Yanmar.

That's why you can once again buy your grandpa's tractor, the Farmall! So what if they are made in Japan, the name says it all.

I will say this about my compact Massey, it has done an amazing amount of work for it's size. I will also say, it has no leg room and I have to rinse the radiator almost daily while mowing else it overheats. The oil drain plug is easy to access but the filter and fill pipe location are poorly engineered. I consider my 20 year old Case to be far superior mechanically.

If you can hold off, summer prices can be better especially at auction.
