looking for a 250 or 200 amp alt i'm running a big amp for cb radio

looking for a bigger alternator 200 or 250 amps someone told me to look for a old ambulance they had 250 amp in them

I run 500 watts with my LEGAL Ham Radio setup with the purely stock OEM alternator and batteries... ;) :-laf



You figuring on burning out receivers across the continent? :-laf :-laf
 
WHEN I. M ON THE ROAD WE RUN IT BEARFOOT BUT WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A BIGGER ALTERNATOR IN THE COLD WEATHER WHEN THOSE GRID HEATER KICK ON AND OFF THE TRUCK NEEDS MORE

BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I FIRE UP MY AMP

BIGGER IS BETTER FOR THESE TRUCKS

IF I COULD FIND A 250 AMP ALTERNATOR I WOULD BE VARY HAPPY

One thing to keep in mind. The bigger alternators sometimes charge at a lower rate, at lower RPMs. Light may come on at idle.

Don't know that you need one with that many amps anyhow. The KW I drive has a 150amp alternator on it, and I have a bunch of lights on the truck and bullrack. Never an issue.
 
Mean Green Alternators makes what your looking for. I need to get one (other bills first, like a Smarty :) I know one guy that has one and loves it.

I bought the Mean Green alt. It is 200 amp with a 3 year warranty (unless you race or pull) and it is a direct drop in for our cummins.

The Mechanical Man in Hesperia, CA builds high current alternators that work really well. I've had one in an old Blazer for almost 10 years and it's still working well. Much better than replacing the NAPA unit every 10 or 11 months, especially during winter in Alaska. I put one of their "smaller" alternators in my 2001 last year after the factory unit gave out. So far so good.
