Need help!

I am looking for a scan tool that can read codes and reset codes. One that does not require a Personal Computer to run. One that is low cost. One that reads real time functions.

Is there such a beast out there and where can I buy one.

I am also computer illiterate so it needs to be easy to use for a common layman.

Already done a search and am more confused than when I started the search, maybe if I had one in my hand I could relate better to what was being said.

I am looking for the same thing. I took a look at the Cummins Quick Check II on the official Cummins site. But it does take a handheld device like a Palm Pilot ect. I am very computer illiterate also. I am thinking the Palm Pilot and the Quick Check II might be worth the investment though. It did seem to be pretty easy to use.

I know the Quick Check II software can read and explain codes, but I'm not sure if it can clear them. Maybe someone who has the Quick Check II could explain?

Everyone,

I will be gone for the weekend so I will get back to this thread on Monday.

Have good weekend!!

My dad has one of those actrons. It seems to work pretty good from what he says. I don't remember where he got it, I'm thinking NAPA, but if I remember correctly, it was about $230. That was a couple years back.

You are right the Cummins Quick Check II is a little pricey. But it did seem to have a lot of features (at least to me anyway). You can order it right from the Cummins official website. It did not specify wether it is for 12v or 24v or both. There is a telephone number you can call for questions, it is (1-800-646-5609).

The Quick Check II is compatible with Palm Pilots lll, llle, lllxe, Vx, Vllx, and also with HandERA.

The price on the Cummins web site for Quick Check II is $299. 95

The price for a brand new HandEra is around $300

A brand new Palm Pilot will go anywhere $150 through $500

But on ebay I saw a Palm Pilot lllxe for $65 through $90 range in the PDAs/Handheld PCs section. I did an ebay search and couldn't find a Cummins Quick Check II. And I didn't notice any HandEra's in the PDAs/Handheld PCs section. So for around $400 you could have a Palm Pilot and Quick Check II.

Hope this helps.

I looked at a few over the weekend and I am considering two.

A actron that www.jcw.com is selling for $300. 00

A autoxray that checkers is selling for $400. 00

I need to do a little more research on these before I commit to buying one.

Just in case anyone is interested. I checked on the Dodge scan tool a while back. I forget the website but the $5000 price tag lost it as being a viable option.

The not so nice thing about it is that it is about the only way to deal with the ABS and some other systems.

Looks like the actron super scanner will do everything the autoxray will and few bucks cheaper plus free shipping and a free gift from www.jcw.com if you request it, you have to do it by phone if you want the free gift because it is not offered over the internet.

Ron

Ron,

You can get a basic AutoXray for OBD-II at Autocheckup.com for 220. 00 or the same scanner with PC-Link for 280. 00. With PC-Link, you can graph data on your computer, as well as download new software and upgrades from their website (most are free, some are not).

The Actron looks good but it appears you have to install chips to upgrade, and I couldn't tell if it supported manufacturer Enhanced OBD-II, which the AutoXray will (for a fee).

I did alot of research when I purchased mine (about 3 years ago) At that time, Actron only had code readers and AutoXray was the only choice unless you wanted to go to a big-bucks unit. The Superscanner looks like a good product.

Bob

Well now I don't know what to do. I could save 20 bucks with the autoxray and it appears to do the same as the actron. One thing the actron does not have is enhanced codeing.

How much does the enhanced code reading from autoxray cost?

Ron

JBlock,

I don't have a laptop computer so the cost would be alot more for me.

I was going to order the actron when I went on line but decided to look at the TDR first, now it looks like I am on hold again, guess I'll have to do a little more research before decideing but I need something soon. It really would be a shame to order one product and then find out there is another one better!

Everyone, please keep the ideas comeing.

Ron

I want too:
