Looking to upgrade power in my 03. 5 48RE without gauging and worrying about stock engine issues down the road. My driving profile is town/country, pull a 5th (total combined wt 17,000), also double pull to TX, AR and around (total combined wt 20-21,000). Heavy foot only as traffic dictates.

Was told by a power friendly dodge dealer to go with the bully Dog downloader---was told by a diesel shop to go with the edge ez with a different waste gate. ???????

Have also read where about 70 hp additional is all one wants to go to meet my above goals. So am a bit confused. My first diesel and love it!

Also I do understand the gauges as have fair share of hours in turbo/supercharged fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Not looking for lotsa power just a modest gain that will not create/provoke issues down the road. An increase in mileage would be super.

Thanks, Charlie (Missouri)

With no gauges I would not do anything unless you are only running around empty, truck only, no trailer. I had an EZ with no gauges and was SHOCKED!! at my egt's when I finally did install gauges. Lucky I did not burn up my motor as I had been pulling my 5th wheel with the EZ on 4 and 5.

With just an empty truck EZ on 4, I can reach 1400F in an instant. :--)

Hope that helps.

I had an Edge EZ on my '03 48RE and loved it. I pulled 10,000 around quite a bit with a heavy foot and never saw over 1200F. Living in Houston where ambient temp is HOT all the time, I felt that was pretty good. I did have the full 4" exhaust and an Airaid filter. I had it on for 50,000 miles without any problems. The truck ran great empty.

I just set the EZ to level 3 and never touched it again. I didn't race the truck so the power was fine for my driving style.

I have the Bully Dog Triple Dog downloader set on performance, 90RWH and 180LB, empty, my EGT rarely surpass 1000 degrees unless I floor it. Towing our 22" Cuddy doesn't make much of a difference. EGT's usually run around 500 to 700 degrees pre turbo, of course, I have a Magnaflow exhaust and bully dog air intake installed that MAY lower temps. Very happy with the Triple dog, tho one downside is it throws codes, a P0069 which I believe is turbo boost and a P0713, for transmission fluid temp, I'm looking into beefing up my 48RE. A buddy of mine has the Edge Juice/ Attitude combo on his duramax and he's pretty happy with it, Good luck

Don't do anything but intake and exhaust w/o installing at LEAST an EGT gauge.

Quadzilla makes a great module (Xzillaraider) for $299 that gives 65hp and better fuel mileage. It uses timing and pressure to get the gains.

Met a few guys with the Edge Attitude Monitor. Unfortunately none drove Cummins, seemed that everyone with it was driving a Duradud. I like the looks of the pod, but it looks to be hard to read, with the readings changing rapidly. I would like to see some input from anyone that owns an Attitude Monitor.

Rholcum,

I have had the attitude for almost a month now. I mounted it above the rear view mirror. I don't think it is hard to read at all. The biggest problem I have is I keep looking over at the A pillar when I am ready to shut her down and all I see is the transmission gauge  EGT's do not fluctuate like crazy but it is different from just glancing over at the gauge on the right.

So SVazquez, from what you said, the Attitude monitor DOES NOT display Trans temp?? Sorry, guess I could have gotten that answer from research.

No, you still have to go w/ the regular gauge for transmission. Outlook won't read transmission either. I don't know if Quad's gauge package will read transmission or not.
