I would like to upgrade with a after market set up with thicker gauge cable and better terminals

if you don't keep these truck battery terminals clean

all kinds of glitches start popin up

Vaughn--before doing anything ask around. For OEM cable set up try looking at Heavy Duty, Aftermarket, Custom Battery Cables for your Car, Truck or RV. For parts to build your own try Wrangler NW - Power Products. Take a good look at your cables. Is the cable in good shape?---no corrosion? Is it mainly the lugs that are shot? If so, put new lugs on the old cables. I'd recommend that you look at military style lugs. You can connect and disconnect the wiring from the lug without taking the lug off the battery post. The continual removal of the lugs from the posts is what causes them to crack and get loose. You can buy cable from a welding supply shop that will be more flexible than standard battery cable wire. You can take cable to most shops that deal with electrical components and have them crimp/solder the lugs on the cable. Or you can buy cable end fittings that are compression fittings. At any rate, you have some options. I don't know how much the dealer charges for replacement cables, but I'm pretty certain that you can do better elsewhere. I know that most NAPA stores can build cables for you, or crimp the ends onto cables. I rebuilt my cables putting on new cable ends and using new military lugs on the battery posts. It was least expensive way for me to go and has worked out just fine.

there was a guy online that made them up and man what a nice set he sold vary heavy duty stuff

whats on there now is junk at best

we will keep looking

thanks#@$%!

I think the guy you are referring to is that first website I gave you. They look pretty good and are priced right. The only thing I would prefer is the military lug. That alleviates having to remove the lug from the post every time you want to disconnect the cable from the battery. On mine I didn't realize how badly cracked they were until I removed them to replace batteries.

yes thats the guy I'm getting old

I was at his web site some time back

looks like he makes some real sweet and heavy duty stuff

if your going to replace it go overkill

man the lugs that came on the truck

have gotting to the point where just to start the truck you need to give them a little twist they are clean

can you just put on new lugs on the stock cables if so i think I am going to do that go with the military lugs

money is a little tight and I think that would for now:rolleyes:

If you use the military lugs you'll need to put new terminals on the cable ends. You can either use compression fittings and not have to remove the cables from the truck, or remove the cables and take them to an electrical shop or NAPA to have new terminals put on. Then, the cables will bolt directly to the lugs. If you go to the Wrangler NW website you can view the parts and decide what you want to do. If you look around you may be able to find the parts at a cheaper price. I cut the cables from the old lugs, stripped back the insulation at least one inch, cleaned everything up real well, used the compression fittings, and sealed everything up with adhesive shrink tubing. The parts aren't cheap, so looking around for a good deal would be worth your time. The absolute best way to do the job is to remove the cables from the truck and have the new cable ends crimped and soldered. It's also the most expensive way to do the job unless you have your own crimper. I was real pleased with the way the job came out.

On a side not, I may be wrong, but I feel that the need for new batteries on my truck resulted from having the alternater continually tryng to charge a battery with a loose connection. At any rate, I changed out the batteries and rebuilt the cables.

cleaned the ones that are on there real good

the two small black wires on the pos side where just on there i touch

them and they fell off the lug

we fixed that cleaned all the lug everything and that should hold for now

One piece Positive!!!

I had a liftgate installed on my CC the batteries were going dead (cables were in not the greatest condition). Went to a one piece positive, and never had another problem. Paid $200 at Napa. I'm going to try CustomBatteryCables.com for the personal Truck.
