Dumb Question

On the kits that use the original lift pump like the vulcan. The original fuel lines clip on the lift pump with plastic clips. The same clip is used at the tank connection. I plan to run my fuel from an aux. tank and eliminate all the clips, but just not use the original tank so it can go back to stock if needed.

Dumb question is --Does the kit have in and out fittings on the lift pump that replace the plastic clip fittings original to the factory lift pump?

I am looking at the Scotty Smart fuel system. A TDR member directed me in that direction. Anyone out there using this system??

I have Scotty's fuel system, and I'm VERY partial to it. I can maintain a solid 10psi of fp with Mach 4s and the original OEM lift pump. The components are the very best Aeroquip stuff that money can buy.

I look at the Vulcan kit and see hose clamps. Yuk. Push-lok hose is MUCH MORE GOODER!! Especially when it's Aeroquip.

I strongly believe that the best overall fuel delivery system would be a sump-fed system that fed off a bulkhead connector at the tank. I'm picturing either a direct-bulkhead fitting or a sump like Diesel Innovations sells.

Then, one could run fat -8 line from tank "pickup" to pump, to filter, to VP. Restriction is practically nil.

Plus, a bypass-style regulator would all but eliminate any FP management issues.

Overall cost would be much less than a FASS or similar setup.

I have his older fuel setup with the braided lines. The new setup is much smarter and lower cost, too.

Can blue fuel line be done in place of the black that is tolerant of bio? Similar to the line used in the rasp kit by Poole but just the big line kit.

B100 and loving it. :D

Just want to give you food for thought,if you opened up the whole fuel system from the tank to the injection pump, but left one restriction in suction side of the system, that whole system can 0NLY flow what the restriction, in this case the fuel module, will let atmopheric pressure push thru that resriction. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

This statement is true, but the pressure loss will be less with a big line kit since you are losing less pressure along the rest of the hose. This is why people see some gain out of going to a big line kit.

I didnt think Scotty was selling his system anymore for some reason.

Yes, Scotty is still selling his system, you can find it on Diesel Truck Resource online store. I like the vulcan system very much, but the aluminum fittings won't hold up to the road salt, like in the midwest.

The scotty system is an easy install and has quality fittings. My pressure has been 12-14psi idle and I cant drop below 10. 8psi mashing the peddle to the floor with 275's and DDTTPM.

Happy shopping :D

Thanks Dave, I am on DTR some, not as much as I am here :D, gotta love these trucks, this is one of the 4 projects I am currently working through. It will never end. haha.

I like that Scotty kit, but if the Vulcan kit does the same thing for less... ..... I will just have to check both, I have heard nothing but good things about Scotty stuff.

A big difference in the two systems is the material and connections, zinc plated steel vs aluminum, and pushlock vs hose clamps. Granted the vulcan system moves the pump back to the tank where as the Scotty doesnt but the Scotty system has been out for a few years so its been tried and tested. JMHO

Dave :)

I agree they are two systems that are apples and oranges when it comes to material, but if they do they same job equally as well then its a no brainer for me. I still need to do some more research.

I just noticed that Vulcan now offers the kit with the fittings made out of stainless steel, they look sharp.
