Hey guys,

I just bought a Jordon controller and was going to install it, but it occurred to me, that I have no idea where the wiring for the brake controller is under the dash for this thing! The controller has about 2' of wire, but there is no way that is going to reach the back of the truck. I did go out and buy more wire and the 20amp circuit breaker that the instructions suggest. Also, I'm going to call to conferm, but can I just take the power directly from a constant power source under the dash (fuse box) vs. running wire all the way up to the battery?

Thanks,

Corey

Corey,

If your truck has the trailer-tow package, it is pre-wired from the factory. You will find the connector under the dash near the steering column.

Corey,

The '94 and '95 are NOT like the later years. There is NO connector available. If you have the tow package look for a large light blue wire above and to the left of the steering column. It will just be snubbed off. That's the wire to the brake terminal on the trailer connector. I used a three wire flat trailer connector under the dask to wire my brake controller so I can just unplug it if I want to remove it.

Thanks guys, I'm running out again to see if I can locate it.

Large, Light Blue above and to the left, GOT IT. I'll be back!

Thanks,

Corey

I knew today was going to be one of those days...

I've looked, I don't see any light blue wires that doesn't go into the Fues panel. Is this wire coming out of a loom, or is it in Limbo. Also, I don't know for sure if the truck has the towing package or not, but it did come with a trailer hitch, and has the big round connector, and came with H/D relays for the lights and signals. There is no anti-sway bar on the rear axle. I'm not sure exactly what else I could use to tell if it has the package or not.

If I can't find the wire, which one is the brake controller on the plug end? Do you happen to know the number, or the color. I'd guess that it would be light blue, but I don't really want to guess anything with a 140. 00 controller!

Thanks,

Corey

Corey,

You have the tow package. The sway bar wasn't there until '97 I think. Maybe '96. On my '95 the blue wire was a #10 so it's kind of big. It was hard to find. Since yours is a '94 it may not be the same as mine so the wire may be anywhere under the dash. If you have as service manual there is a page in the wireing diagram with the connector on it. Check the color of the wire to the brake terminal lug.

I just checked the plug at the hitch, there is a H. D blue wire, I'd say about 10 ga. I guess I'm going to have to figure out where the heck it comes out at. The other wires I checked are the lights, so I'm thinking that there must be a loom or something where these wire comes in.

Joe,

On your truck, was the wire in a loom, or just floating around? There are a few large blue wires, but they all head either into the steering column or into the fuse block. I don't really want to start cutting into the looms looking for wire. I'm sure you can understand that.

I'll keep hunting around. I really don't want to run a wire all the way back there if there is one provided.

Thanks again,

Corey

Corey,

Mine was just clipped off so there was just a bare end. It was tucked away somehow so it was hard to find. It's been a while so I don't remember exactly where the end was. It did come out of a wire loom that came thru the firewall. When you find it there will be no doubt, just a loose bare wire end. Kind of mickey mouse to say the least!

Well I think I'm getting close. I'm tracing it backwards. Assuming that it is the light blue wire at the hitch, I've followed the loom all the way up to the inside of the engine compartment where the loom of aprox 15 wires meets up with a loom of 50 million!!!! Ugh, I've now deteremend where it enters the fire wall, now just trying to get into the loom / tangle of wires to find mine...

This is going to be FUN!

Thanks,

Corey

Joe,

YOU RULE!!!!!

Also, I noticed that this was your 2400 post! Man, thats a lot!

FYI, I was looking all over this loom, I started to unwrap the tape and look, but I took a different view of the loom and noticed that it came in the cab through a grommet and was taped up, but had a length of about 2" that was untaped. I started to thumb (as best as I could) through the wires, and noticed a label on one. This was a different lable than what I had been seeing on all the other wires, so I tried to flip it around to where I could read it, and I saw "er +" on the flip 15amp max so I yanked! It was it, fell right out. You were right.

Thanks again guys,

Corey

I found the blue connector from the information on this website. Thanks to all who helped with where to look. What a great website for information. Installed my controller and I am ready to try it out. Thanks again.

Ramboy- Just out of curiosity, because you have a '99, did your truck come with a connector or stubbed wire harness or both for your brake controller? The reason I ask is that I already have a Tekonsha Voyager installed which I spliced into a stubbed loom, & I'm curious as to whether there is also a connector to plug a pigtail into as well? I looked for one but did not find one. Maybe I missed it. I am going to up grade to a Prodigy & if there is a connector I would rather use a connector pigtail.

If it came with the connector, it is under the dash(of coure) slightlly to the left of the steering wheel, on the bottom side of a large bunch of wires, it is secured to the wires and is blue with the open end of the connector pointed downward and toward the rear of the truck. Hard to plug into where it is located but can be done. bg

well yes this is an old post:-laf

I put in a prodigy contorller today and tapped into the blue wire with the tag on it, red to the brake switch wire, white to ground, and black to the 12V source.

My trailer is at the shop so I cant test it on that, but I tried with a test light on the blue wire, and even when stepping on the brakes, and activating the controller manually, I dont get any juice at the rear trailer connector, or at the blue wire coming out of the controller.

Any ideas?

You most likely have a bad ground. Another possibility is the 12v wire you tapped in to. Did you by chance tap in to a`12v switched wire requiring the ignition to be turned on. The Prodigy is an enertia activated controller, so when everything is wired correctly you'll only get a dim light when testing the blue wire at the plug with the vehicle being stationary. All the other hot pins will light the tester bright. When the vehicle is stationary with the foot brake applied, the controller is outputting about 3v on the blue wire at the plug. If you haven't done it, try testing all the hot pins to see if you have power to them. This should tell you if the problem is just the blue wire, or if the problem is a ground or power issue. Good luck!

If the junk they put on the roads in Connecticut is anything like Montana then your wire is most likely toast by now. I had to run a long ground off the battery to my test lite to assure a good connection and then probe the wire starting at the cab moving back to the hitch. This is the method I had to resort to because a visual inspection offered no hope. The wire was corroded inside the casing with no sign of deficiency. I went bonkers looking for that break in the wire. Naturally, the problem manifested itself at the most inconvenient time. Luck.

Yes if the roads arent white from snow they are white from SALT!

Well i was up at the shop yesterday and hooked up the trailer and the brakes work fine! It must be like skip mentioned, because its an inetria controller it wont send voltage down the wire until it senses the vehicle slowing.

thanks guys.
