John... I purchased the "Blue Box" at the Dyno Days in Abbottsford, BC. The Blue Chip folks were there, and I spent some time talking to them. I spoke with Jane mostly, whom I felt was very knowledgable about the Blue Box. She never talked down to me, which I appreciated. I installed the box myself. Very simple, with excellent instructions. It comes with everything you need, including the velcro to stick it on your dash. The instructions are even in color! How do I like it? It is fantastic. My truck goes up the mountain passes with heavy loads and can accelerate with a very slight pressure to the throttle. I leave the box on all the time. I still get 19. 0mpg on the highway, empty, @62. 5mph. I'm just waiting for a PSD to try to pass me!

Mopar-muscle, I'm really interested in hearing your results with Blue Chip. I think they're gonna be at the RV/Camper show in Boston later this month (I'll have my checkbook with me just in case). Maybe start to BOMB the next day.

rob , thanks , after reading your post i called blue chip , going over to their shop on thursday at lunchtime to take the owners 99 for a ride , his is making something in the neighborhood of 380 hp if i remember correctly , and is an automatic to boot , according to BC the Y2K rams are supposed to have a revised torque convertor and valve body so i guess i'm gonig to be a rolling test bed for the new and hopefully improved trans , also i like blue chips no hassle "try it for 10 days and if not happy with its performance return it for a full refund" , (minus shipping for those of you not lucky to be 15 minutes from their shop), also the owners brother has a 2000 w/ auto that has only a box and i can make arrangements to drive /ride in that one also , i'll let you guys know what i think on thursday afternoon ...

Mopar Muscle... Enjoy the test drive, but take your checkbook, cause once you drive a rig with the BOX, you ain't gonna leave without one! It is amazing to say the least. Remember to get the adjustable box... you can choose from six different settings. I have mine set on 30. The settings go up to 70. It is a simple jumper cable system to change the settings. I will be waiting for your report of the test drive, and also the report of how it works on your RAM!

Mopar, hate to get off the thread a little, but a revised auto for Y2K? Has anyone else heard of this?

FWIW, Wifey & I test drove a 2K 2500SLT Auto Turbo Diesel last week and noticed a significant reduction in torque convertor slip in it compared to our '94. Even with my TST 230/605 fuel plate, the 2K seemed to be nearly as quick as ours. . Just my (our) observation (s)... .

Hey fellas, I recommend BC highly. They are very good people. This is no BS, they are customer oriented. I believe I provided them the first dyno charts as a result of my run at Diesel dynamics. I know they did not have data on the new box since they were not capable of any results on the double roller dyno they had been using. I have just replaced my clutch, but it will not hold the power of the new Blue Box. I will be going to a McCloud double disc clutch for about $1. 200. 00, ouch! The new Blue Box is better used in non HVAC trim, set it to 30%. If you are HVAC caliber, you will eat Power Max's for snacks, they will not deliver the fuel the BB can. The BB will create smoke, aka hp, just like a 12 valve Cummins that is souped up.

If I have not been clear, Blue Chip is Top Notch.
Look out dozen valvers, commin to getch ya!!

thanks hvac , so you have the blue box ? i'm going to drive BC's hopped up truck tomorrow , can't wait , they say they have a new dyno that connects directly to the output shaft of the transmission ,gives a good hp figure but not an accurate torque number because it isn't taking into account the rear axle mutiplication ,they are working on a conversion factor to see about an accurate torque number, i may have them before and after my truck with the blue box and after an injector change.

on injectors i'm leaning heavily towards the bosch RV , can't get to crazy this is my commuter vehicle ... hehehe ... .

now when you say SMOKE , will i see smoke at 30% ??? don't need the envior nazis taking away my fun factor ...

thanks again to you and everyone for their replies ,

i may become a BC spokesman , since i'm right next door , if anyone is interested they are having a pretty good SALE on some of their older stock , give them a buzz

HVAC is correct! Set to 70, the blue box will eat the powermax for lunch!

But, then there is that pesky ECM to worry about. Darn fuel derate at 20. 5 psi, and the open wastegate! And the Check Engine light! Better add another little module to allow for increased boost. Hmm. . your $800 is now increased by $300, to $1100. And still that pesky Check Engine light.

Guess there's no money left to have any lunch whatsoever?

Craig
(ps. this is just a jovial comentary. BlueBox makes a great product, and takes a different approach to increasing performance. Any increase is a good increase, in my book!).

craig , if i remember correctly the new blue box does NOT require a boost module , i asked them about that , i may be wrong i will ask again tomorrow ...

i called a dealer today and the 99 and 00 have the same TQ part number , i will ask BC about that also .

Hello Mopar, you are right about not needing a boost module with the Blue Box. It communicates directly with the pump and circumvents the ecm. In my case, the DD boost module is part of the Stage III kit along with the injectors.

For the record, I think the Powermax is a fine product, I may have been attempting to incite a Joeseph Donnelly riot. Hehehee... didn't work!

CCollar, I get lunch free anyway remember, for doing random deeds of kindness.

Always bein'jovial,
HVAC

I'm not sure how any box could circumvent the ecm. Please educate me!

I seems to me that regardless of what the pump thinks (as told by the BB), the ecm will still derate its fuel signal at the 20. 5, and the wastegate will still open. So I guess the max boost will be 20. 5, but there will still be incoming fuel? Does the BB completely take control of the fuel delivery, or does it just add to the fuel delivery signal coming from the ecm?

Craig

HVAC - you had your lunch... well, you drank your lunch, remember? You probably should have ordered Guiness, it would have been more filling!! At the next RamRunners, I'll buy you a piece of pie!

Sounds like you guys got some figuring out to do before you wont be looking at the tailpipes of P7100's. Which leeds to my ???'s, what does Dr. P have in that Pike's Peak rig? is it retrofitted w/P7100? HVAC you gonna race him at P. P. ? Happy BOMBING #ad

well i went to BC today , and all i can say is "BOMB ME UP BABY" , Chip's Ram is testostrone plus , HVAC you would love its auto impaired performance , which is outstanding , i went there in my bee and took the rest of the afternoon off ripping around in the bee , i couldn't get enough!

here's how his truck is set as i remember , 275 rv injectors , both blue boxes , the adjustable old style AND the new 4 wire , also adjustable , but this one eliminates the need for a boost module , (i saw 34psi with his foot in it , the thing revs right up to 3000 plus like a gas motor , if it wasn't for the the sweet sound of the CUMMINS you wouldn't believe it was a diesel. ) BD exhaust brake , with torque lok and auto lok , (both required to get the full effect of the e brake) a pro lok convertor of his own spec , a BD valve body and 3. 54 gears , way to many gauges , monitoring everything including transmission line pressures , (this is a test rig besides his trailer hauler) , also a Banks 4 inch stainless exhaust with muffler , and a 14 cm turbo housing

yes there was some smoke when you hit the throttle while standing still and if you punch it , you get a puff , the auto lok and torque are a definite must for this hp level , which is a claimed , 380 with 839 ft/lbs torque , i was powerjoke hunting on my test ride, only found one with a huge load of black beauty on board , so it was no fun wasting that one.

the new 4 wire does not connect like the VA , and the VA is no match to this , but the VA is the only box that plays with timing , the thought is that the VA is steeping into the area that the original powermax did , i wonder if VA being in germany is sheilding them some from the mess that TST almost got into ?? also the VA may require a boost module for full effect.

egt's looked reasonable, but it wasn't a long ride and no load this was just a SOP drive and i liked it .

after driving this and seeing some prices , i will next attempt a drive in his brothers 2000 auto equipped 2500 that only has the 4 wire box , no other mods , hopefully i will be happy with that level , if not i'll have to put a 500 cube motor in the bee for all out banzi runs ...

CCollar, the BB will effect the volume of fuel to the engine without interference from the ecm. The ecm will decrease the signal to pump when boost rises but the bb is connected between the ecm and the pump. Now you have two signal sources. I believe the ecm is still is in control of timing though. I was able to reach boost well in excess of 30 lbs. with the origional bb.

Hey TomCat! It would be my pleasure to compete with the infamous Dr. "P" someday! I
am busy with clutch homework presently. Barry Sadler does have the P7100 on his truck. This is the way to go for reliability and performance. Minds are at work at this moment concerning this retrofit feat.

I am also told that Barry has a propane system on his truck to help burn all the fuel the "P" pump is capable of delivering. Another thing which has me fascinated is that I am told he has a Lennco transmission. That has to be the way to go for drag racing. Very durable and fast! Last week my homework project (Barry) took me to a company called McCloud in SoCal. They are making the dual disc clutch that BS is using, I plan to make this the next HVAC test project.

HVAC , was the 30 psi boost obtainable with the BB#1 without the DD boost module ? and if so how did you do it ? i got in on ted j's VA CPC deal and i am going to try the CPC with the new BB 4 wire box , i am also getting ready to look into making my own boost module , i work with alot of smart EE engineers and this should be a no-brainer to put in line with factory style connectors , in fact i'm curious how much boost is obtainable with a boost module on a STOCK engine , has it been done ??

HVAC,
Keep us updated on your research into the dual disc clutch. I am very interested. Will probably be looking for a new clutch soon.
