RJOL said:When someone, who doesn't own a 3rd gen, and has no first hand knowledge of this setup, comes to the forum, quotes a couple of articles that may or may not have anything to do with the new G-56 and the DMF setup in the 2005 CTD, and then sums it up by saying:
"It will give you a nice education on the Dual Mass Flywheel ... then you can make up your mind if you want one of these potential disasters or not. "
What do you expect us poor 2005 buyers to say... "Thanks for all the info??"
Now show me anywhere in this thread that someone asked his opinion about the suitability/durability of this setup...![]()
Light'en up pal ... EVERYONE'S opinion was asked for in the beggining of this thread ...
"I may need to move up to a 3500 and am considering a 6spd this time since I am towing more frequently than I had originally planned. I am looking for first impressions from any G56 users. Good or bad, I just want your opinions. Thanks. "
I may not own an '05, but I can research others opinions about the DMF setup ... good/bad/or indiferent. It just seams that the concenses is that the DMF was a bad idea in many applications ... the odds are that the new MB G56 will suffer the same fate ... DC could not leave well enought alone. From what I have read the DMF is not used in class 6 and up trucks ... and it must be for a reason.
I'm sure Southbend will have a conversion when people begin to rip up the new DMF setup and fry friction rings ... just another price we ALL pay for adding more Ummmph to the engins.
Remember, this thread was not created by someone who ALL-READY laid their money down ... it was created by someone who is THINKING of laying their money down. I don't expect you "poor 2005 buyers" to say anything ... you folks are on the "bleeding" edge and your opinions will be much sought after in the months and years ahead. NO ONE WISHES you folks misforturne with the new transmission, but the research shows that the DMF has not lived up to a problem free existance ... such are the slings and arrows pioneers endure.
And anyway, when you pick up the new truck you can say ... "FATCAT ... what does that prick know! I love my truck!".
And again relax and light'en up.
