4BT history

New Project Cummins Swaped Lambo

I purchased this '82 Chevy earlier this year...

It has a industrial 6bt that is missing the engine data plate.

It has the plate stating that the engine conforms to the 1992 model year requirements.

The seller stated that he removed the engine from an Oshkosh RV that was "one year before they started putting p-pumps on the Dodges"....so I'm assuming it's a 1993 model but he never confirmed.

This engine does have a p-pump.

I have done some searching around & haven't found a ton of details on this application.

I would appreciate any insight or links guiding me in the right direction.

Additionally what application is best to use when ordering parts as I have a growing list of items to purchase.

Thanks in advance.

Is there an ESN anywhere on the engine?

If so it's free to register with QuickServe and get all sorts of info.

That goes for all Cummins engines and gen sets.

You get 5 free active ESN's.

https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html

If you know the vintage equipment it came out of you could try to find a used one for sale and see if you can use that ESN to get you in the ball park.

Someone will be able to help you.

Or since it was from an RV, a lot of folks use RV.net here as a forum you can jump on that and ask around how to figure out the Oshkosh info. Or maybe someone has one can share some info.

The ratings are all over the place, I've found 92 is 160hp w/ 4speed, 93 is 190hp w/4speed, 230 w/ 6speed.

Looked at a bunch of 93 oshkosh motor homes the data plates none have the ESN and no pics of the engine at all.

Is there a tag on the pump with any part numbers? You could reverse some information from there.

Good luck on your search.

I will have to take a closer look on where to find a ESN & will double check.
I know that the main plate that calls put engine info is M.I.A. :(

I appreciate those resources... I will take a gander around to see what other OshKosh RV specifics I can find.

Here are the numbers on the Bosch pump & the one engine plate that is there.

I believe that is an allison automatic that was attached to her in the RV...

I have a dodge nv4500 in my truck though.

I am guessing that the guy I purchased it from still has both the transmission & the RV.

I'm going to send him another message requesting more information including the VIN #.

Well that’s the cool thing about the 6B, that it’s like a Small Block Chevy or a Ruger 10/22. You can make it anything you want. So versatile. What’s your goal? It it a legal concern?
It probably has a SAE flywheel housing, and to use the 4500, you’ll need a Ram housing/ flywheel setup. Alternate route would to talk to Quickdraw, I follow them on Instagram. They make bells and adapters for these situations.

Please get me the numbers off the tag on the turbo, the numbers of the tag on the rear of the fuel pump ( read from the rear of the engine). It looks very similar to the one in my 1994 Oshkosh motorhome. From the Bosch p/n on the fuel pump it appears to be a 190 HP 475 TQ engine. What parts are you looking to buy? Can you find a p/n on the oil pan, the exhaust manifold or any other items?

BTW If it came from a Class A motorhome then it is still considered an Automotive engine, not an Industrial one.
