Competition Drag Race in Redding, CA??

is the 12Valve slave and master unit upgrade a "must upgrade" or can the stock one handle it? how many beans will the new unit set ya back?

I usually replace my slave/master cylinders when i install a new clutch. For some reason i didnt this time and have not had one problem. My clutch has been in for a couple weeks now and no problems. This 3200 is not nearly as bad as the 3600 or 3850. I really do not think it is much (if all) harder then a stocker, but then again i have not had a stock clutch in a while. So i would not worry about it as much with the 3200 but the 3600+ definately do with the install.

Richard,

I have not actually kept a "daily driver" truck that long after i bomb it. For some reason i always end up selling it, been thru 3 of them in 2 years. The longest i have had one is about 20,000 miles and it still felt as good as day one. My buddy has had his now for about 45,000miles and has had no issues but it is just a driver/tower with the occasional race with the truck/car in the other lane he doesn't beat on it as much as me. I would have no reason to believe with proper care(like not doing 3rd gear launces everyday) that you couldn't get tons of mileage with these clutches. Some people get 100k+ with their stock clutch on a stock truck so on a modified truck with a modified clutch you should get the same as long as you are not beating the H**l out of it. I do not believe that rolling into it on espressways as such racing is hard on it it is mostly the burning of it like 3rd gear launches and such.

Chris

"If you wanna play you gotta pay" Gotta always remember that because with a modified truck everything is more susuptible to break.

Excellent info Chris. At this point Piers has a 3200# 6CB on the way to him from SBC. Looks like I'll be taking it off his hands along with the other items. I don't do 3rd gear launches just on the roll so it should hold up well for me.

I also talked to Bill at DTT and he has the adapter ready for the 3rd gen RASP so I'll be picking one of those up on Monday before I go to Piers shop. Things are coming together nicely at this point.

Got the bell housing wrapped today with sound damping material. This was a 2 layer process consisting of 1/8" of adhesive backed asphalt based material covered with a 2-layer foam/rubber deadening material glued over that. This 2-part second layer comes already glued together - 1/4" black foam glued to 1/8" of rubber. So the total wrap is 1/8" asphault layer, 1/4" foam, 1/8 rubber (neoprene maybe?). It came from www.soundstop.com. (LSFarm did a lot of research on sound damping a year or so ago and found this place. They give TDR members a discount. )

Unfortunately, for all the work, it didn't quiet it down ans much as I'd hoped, but it did help. I also notice the noise of the engine coming through the floor is overall a bit quieter.

This process was kind of a pain - about 3+ hours work. If I'd known before hand about the rattle I'd have done it while the transmission was out during clutch install. However, considering the cost in time and material and the end result, I'm not sure it was worth it. I spent $100 on material, but I only used about 1/4 of it. Wish the firewall was accessable and I'd use it up putting it under the foil heat blanket.
