looking for larger lug studs?

just had my second front wheel loosen up and brake a couple studs, last year i lost the wheel. i run trucks hard with 9' plow on some steep driveways and i just think the 1/2" studs are underated for those axles. wondering if anyone has changed theirs.

Do a search on wheel studs or 2nd gen alum wheels.

I have wrote about this a couple of times.

You can upgrade to 9/16 no problem.

Any good tire and wheel shop should be able to put the studs in for you. The same as is used front and rear on a One ton 9/16's very common item if you want to have it done for you.

I think the 2nd gens had a different knurl diameter. Trying to find the correct knurl was the hard part,

Sizes to match are... ... Length, stud size, thread count, size of knurl area, I didn't have any problem matching when I took the old stud into a large napa store and told them what I wanted to match. I was matching rear wheels from a 1 ton dually 1995 after changing out the entire rear axle on my truck. the old Dana 70 had 1/2 inch and the later model 1 ton had 9/16 .

i did a search and came up with part number and ordered from carquest. i will let you know how it turns out.

stud replacement

I'm in the process fo of replacing drums and rotors and have pressed the studs out. Looking at the stock 1/2 stud the shank that presses through the hub and drum/rotor is much larger than the 1/2 threaded portion. There may be a 9/16 replacement with the same shank size as the 1/2? That would make for an easy swap!!!

wheel studs

you can use the 5/8ths studs that were used on the one ton D300'S . You will have to ream the holes to the proper size for the studs. I have the proper reamer. I can do it for you if you can't find anyone to ream them near you.

i finally changed the studs king pin kits and wheel joint on my drivers front before my last 6 1/2" studs broke. hard to find time between paying work, storms, and family. used carquest dor 610-283 studs and 611-052 nuts, went smoothly and much stronger than stock.

I ran into a similar problem when attempting to install aluminum aftermarket wheels on my '92. Studs too short/small. They do make a 9/16 stud that is slightly longer for the front, but I needed more length for my wheels. I finally used a Dorman 303 stud for a newer model and had a machine shop turn down the shank slightly, then knurl. They go in tight and give plenty of length for thicker wheels.



Seems the aftermarket has forgotten this truck. I often walk past an old Ford truck sitting in the weeds, and see those long wheel studs sticking out past the lug nuts - asking "Why Dodge couldnt have done that"! You dont see the Dodge sitting the weeds tho ...
