I just changed the oil in my 98 12V to Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40, after using nothing but Delo 10W-30 (winter) and 15W-40 (summer) dino oil exclusively. I made this choice based on three factors, cold weather starting (Alaskan), cost and ease of availability at Wallyworld. I would have rather gone to a class IV "full synthetic", but wanted to be able to find it nearby... and fairly reasonably priced.
I have read threads on this forum, where much comment has been made pertaining to the smell of the Rotella T Synthetic. I did in fact notice it immediately upon changing my oil, within the 1st 50 miles! I am looking for input from those that are, or have run this oil in their 12V motors. Does the eggy, burnt smell ever subside? I presume this to eminate from vapors exiting the crankcase breather. My motor seems to crank faster when cold, idle oil pressure comes up faster too. Comments from those in the know are much appreciated.
