4" exhaust

where in Connecticut...

I'm mild in the BOMB department. I run RV275's, and an AFE drop in with an enlarged airbox opening, and a straight 3" exhaust. It runs great and really moves out for what it is.

I'll most likely be installing larger injectors this winter... for some reason the ones with 3 or III comes to mind. I dont plan on any electronic boxes such as the Edge. I want to make moderate power using only injectors.

Plus I'm also going to get a Rip 4" system with the Diamond Eye muffler. Want to tone this thing down just a bit.

I'm thinking more boost is in order but not to exceed 30psi at any time. Hopefully the turbo will last longer this way. I'll need a boost fooler for the MAP sensor and either an elbow or the TurboMaster. I'm really leaning towards the turbo master cause that will force me to remove the turbo so I can install a pyro sensor pre-turbo... without having to worry about metal shavings. I'll also go ahead and finally grab me a boost gauge while I'm at it. Those two gauges are a long time coming anyway.

I'm really hoping for adjustability on the boost levels and the TurboMaster is about the only thing out there that looks like it was made for fine tuning. Who makes the adjustable elbows if I decide to go that route? I thought it was TST but couldn't find it on their site. Thanks.

With the threes and free flowing exhaust ... ... that will never happen unless a 2X4 is stuffed under the go pedal. larger turbos are fine in the 30's as they are within their map (36 - 38 is the ideal pressure I have seen). The head gasket is good til 50 and the intercooler ..... well some grenade at 52 some at 80. Sure you can open the wastegate and throttle back the turbo but with the mods you want you will only create higher egt's at 30lbs max. You want more air when adding fuel or heat , and smoke is the byproduct.

I highly recommend a EZ box first. The response you will get is much better than larger injectors alone. Also the 275's and a EZ are a perfect combination allowing you to keep your stock turbo at reasonable and safe boost levels for the Hx35 Turbo (35-38psi) , Your head gasket and your EGT's. Plus the EZ has a built in "Boost fooler". If you don't use a box for the "Boost fooler" I have a setup for $50.

Kurt.

I will let you tryout a EZ if you want.

I thought alot about and Edge EZ. I'll consider one. Thanks for the offer. I was just thinking about making a little more power without adding a box.

With the HX35 and the RV275's I have... I need to get some baseline readings of boost and EGT. Thats for sure.

Toolman... are you saying that I need to go beyond 30psi with III's to keep EGT down? Guess that would make sense... I really dont know how much more fuel III's would really give me.

What about the 275's? If I leave those in, and dont use a box, should I go ahead and consider a fooler and wastgate elbow or turbomaster to get a little more boost pressure. I suppose if my EGT's were acceptable right now I wouldn't need to add more air pressure.

Hmmmm... this really makes me want to get my gauges in NOW. Its all guessing for me now without them since I dont know where I'm actually at on temps and boost. I suppose I could go ahead and install a turbomaster while I'm tapping the manifold. I can always set it at 20psi max to begin with. Of course I'll never know what my stock wastegate control was doing for me. I'll be taking the turbo off for a probe install. I'd rather not remove it again later for a turbomaster. Two birds... one stone type thing.

Thanks for the replies.

No, The natural fueling of higher flow injectors VS Turbo drive pressure will net you more boost. More fuel less boost = Higher EGTs. The slightly higher boost levels are just within the turbos proper efficiency map.

You need a fooler regardless as the factory parameters will set an overboost code at 20 psi max and will defuel the motor as a result.

GET GUAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) They are an essential tool.
