H i... I m looking for info on electronics and a torque converters. I recently bought a 2003, 2500 4x4, quad cad, short bed, with the 5. 9ISB. It is standard output of 250HP and 460FT LBS. I plan on pulling about a 28ft camper.
Gauges, gauges, gauges!! Before anything! You have to know whats going on before you change anything. Good transmission upgrade next BEFORE bombing. Gauges are really a matter of personal preference but you NEED a EGT, boost and fuel pressure with transmission temp if an auto.
I'm gonna bounce this up to 3rd gen Engine/Drivetrain; where you'll be buried under more info then you'll know what to do with.
Meanwhile; you can read thru all the threads on power boxes; etc; that's usually the more-power starting point. Power always means you need max air (intake upgrade) and max cooling (exhaust upgrade). So look into that too. Intake upgrade has the least 'bang for the buck'; do exhaust first if you're on a budget.
But mild power upgrades can be done quite safely without getting into too much.
2. DTT/ATS/Suncoast are the "big 3" transmission folks, although there are other great ones as well. Do some research, find out who's near you, and make your decision. Personally, I would go with a TC/VB if you're not planning too much HP, but I'd rather play it safe than sorry and just go for the full rebuild/upgrade with Billet input shaft. This is only feasible, however, if you plan to keep the truck long enough to make the financial investment worthwhile.
3. There are a ton of great power boxes... from mild to wild. You have to decide what your end goals are. I prefer a timing/duration box over a pressure box, but search the threads and find out what's good for you.
