Does anyone know where I can get a neato shifter knob for my 5-spd? Stock black is getting a little old.

Carbon fiber and Rawhide are both cool, but I'd like to see anything that anyone had.

I make custom shift knobs all the time for my friends, have done anything from billiard balls to pistons. The only thig that I will tell you is that the cool looking ones are not usualy very functional. Send me an idea and i will run with it.

Whelan Brother's makes nice ones for the big rigs. You can get them in two styles: classic and sport. You can also get them in various woods, aluminum, etc. I like them because you have a thumb switch (for jake brake or exhaust brake) and a finger switch (for 2 spd axle).

when i was towed, the tow truck driver's knob was a blued steel skull... looked cool. . dont know if it hindered shifting tho.

A $3 improvement to mine was to replace the center cap with one that reads 1-2-3-4-5,instead of that dumb L & O business. From your local Dodge dealer.

I have replaced many shifter knobs with the "Hurst T-Bar". These were very comfortable. I may try to see if one will work on mine this week.

Anyone know whether the threads are standard or metric on our shifter? When I purchased my others, there were 2 different packages. One had SAE adapters and the other had Metric adapters.

azcummins,

APA Industries makes some cool shifter knobs. You can order them though Summit Racing 800-230-3030 or direct from APA at 800-515-6438.

APA Industries Go to shift knobs page, page 3 has the best selection I think. They have some other neat stuff too, check 'em out.

I just ordered this knob Wednesday for $19. 95, I am hoping this is their largest black leather-wrapped handstitched shift knob. I will post my impressions when it arrives. Sorry this is not a very good picture, just click on the photos on the website for a larger image (too large to post here)

MichaelT,

Know if Whelan Brother's has a web site? Instead of adding the BD style of E-Brake switch, I am wondering if one of these knobs would fit our baby trucks?

I have a B&M hammer shifter on my 5 speed /|\,
and a B&M T handle on my T-case \|/
#ad

They work great, I can get a good grip on the hammer and my hand doesnt slip off if its sweaty. And the T handle works great for the T-case because I only use it occasionaly, and just grab it and pull. They come in SAE threads, but I got them to work on our metric levers. #ad
The shifters come with inserts for diffrent sizes of shidters, there is one close to ours, but it will work with some brawn and some loc tight(included).

I put on an Eaton/Fuller shift knob for an air operated split shift transmission. The splitter buttons have no function, but it looks like it belongs in a Peterbilt and it's a conversation piece. The threads were a larger size, so I drilled and tapped a bolt and made the adapter to fit our shift levers.

Thanks for all the replies about the shifter. I went ahead and tried to take off the old one, but I can't get the nut to turn that is in the handle without turning the whole shifter assembly. Kinda freaky when the whole stick shift turns all the way down to the transmission. Anyone know about to get the knob nut off without moving the whole stick?

The cap on top of the stock knob with the pattern printed on it comes out and a lock nut under it. Use a hair dryer to heat up the knob so the cap will pop out easily with a small screwdriver and not leave a mark.

I got the cap off, now I have to get the lock nut off without removing my stick shift.
