I'm about to replace the rear brake shoes on my 1996 2500 4x4 5 speed. I'd like to get rear shoes at least as good as the Performance Friction front pads. Sadly, Performance Friction doesn't make shoes. What have y'all been buying and where?

Matt; Haven't replaced my rears yet. Had been doing a bit of reading on the subject though. Just rebuilt my fronts and put larger wheel cylinders in the rear.

There are two main resources for pads and shoes I've read about:

EGR http://www.egrbrakes.com/index-main.htm These guys are expensive, but they have an excellant product. I bought my SS/kevlar flex brake lines from them and very happy.

The other contact is Sam Petterson. So a search for his name on this site and you will find contact info. I haven't bought anything from him personally, but everyone that posts here I've read has had nothing but good to say about him.

Good luck, Tony.

The rear shoes don't get the load or wear that front pads do. I llike Raybestos PG+ grade shoes (red painted shoes). You can get them at Pep Boys.

Do yourself a favor and call the guy's at EGR. I re-did my brakes on the '97 and went with them, they are very nice too deal with and their products work. Go with their over sized rear wheel cylinders and the carbon/Kevlar shoes, they rock. They are also expensive, which excludes the cheap scape's and penny pincher's, but they offer the best performing brakes for the Dodge/Cummins trucks.
