All Truck Nationals At Carlisle....

NJ inspection

Well I've had my truck for about a month or more now and have loved every minute of it. So far I've had no problems (well other then some empty cases of beer and busted knuckles) with doing the basic stuff so far. Fluid and filter changes, front and rear brakes, exhaust, suspension etc... I managed to complete the TST KDP kit with the help of an ex-diesel mechanic, but I can't count on stuff like this all the time.

I live in Frederick Maryland and would be willing to drive up to about an hour away in the surrounding states. I know there's a Cummins shop in Baltimore I believe and there's a Mack shop here locally (don't know how willing they'd be to work on light duty stuff). I just haven't really had good experiences with Dealerships (which is why I decided to build a garage and invest in factory service manuals for all my vehicles in the first place) and most privet shops don't want to tackle any of these projects so I figured if anyone would know you guys would.

Thanks.

Jim

DIESEL SHOP

There is a shop just north of the Maryland line on rt. 11 north of Hagerstown called CV Diesel. They do work on diesel p/u and full size diesel. I have not had any work done by them but i know people that have and liked there work. There phone # is (717) 597-3184. This may work for you.

Jim,

Merv (Huf 'n' Puf) has a shop right near I495 and I95 south of DC; he's been BOMBing his own Dodge, and racing it. And Kaufmann's shop is right up the road from you in Dillsburg, PA, though I don't know how much diesel work they do; don't forget the up-coming dyno event there.

There are also enough MD-TDR folks in your area to have a BOMBing party now and again.

Jim,

What do you have planned for the truck? Some of us may have already done some of the same things you are planning, and could help you out.

Well I'm awaiting the arrival of my TST gages and pod. The boost and EGT I have no problems handling. The trans temp I've never done before. I guess we'll just see what has to be done.

The main thing I'm looking at doing for the time being until I have enough saved for a DTT trans is just the free mods. Stock plate full forward, afc full forward and star wheel all the way. I am assuming I am at least going to have to get a new break-off screw. Basically I just printed out directions on how to install a fuel plate and figured that should get me close. Just be nice to have a someone supervise, or take it some place. If I take it some place I'd like to have them set the pump timing as well to the 15-16 degree range. I'm pretty mechanically inclined with a steep learning curve. It's just having someone with the knowhow to guide would be nice.

Jim,

Are you planning on going to Kauffmans on the 14th of Aug? Those are all simple enough things to do, and there will be plenty of knowledgeable people there to help, including myself, if I don't have to work. I would also consider a 3K GSK kit. Makes the truck run completely different, and from what I understand, (since I don't have an auto), won't hurt the transmission.

Hmmm I may or may not be able to make it.

I work one weekend a month, and 99% of the time the other 3 weekends are reserved for either racing or crewing for a race.

I'd really like to make it to a couple and shoot the breeze.

That Antrim Diesel is only about 45min from me. Sounds good. I'll have to check them out.

Thanks again.

The DIesel Connection

CnH2n+2,

There is a shop in Joppastown (SP?) Maryland that does a lot of hot rod diesel stuff. They are called the diesel connection and are located off of Pulaski Hwy (rt 40) in Joppastown.

I spoke to one of the owners (Jeff Blonheim). He was a mechanic for Cummins for 15 years and now him and his partner have their own shop. I had some work done there and they are a bit pricey but they are very thorough and really nice guys. They are l;ocated behind an RV dealer.

When I was talking to the guy I told him I was considering getting some injectors and he said to me "I have not seen many guys around here upgrade injectors, sure you want to do that?". Made me think a little... But they are such good guys and will do anything you want them to. He tried to sell me on twins... :)

They are a dealer for Suncoast trannies as well.

I have been trying to do everything myself lately so have not been there in a while. I am looking for a new transmission but do not want a suncoast so I will be going somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

Phil
