Guys I bumped into these links at Geno's "Commonly Seen Automatic Transmission Problems" tab , they wont pull up? does a guy need to be member or something... . or does anyone have these articles saved??

Ram Transmission Problems List

thnx B

guys... I am going to snap... ... adjusted the bands and "replaced with brand new" the gov solenoid and gov sensore, & lockup solenoids, still the exact same today... It's throwing codes...

1757, Gov over press.

1763 gov sensore V-to high,

1762, gov press sensor offset improper voltage

po123 TPS voltage to high

last I checked the TPS was about . 786 VDC not even close the recommend by Geno's 1. 2V to 1. 5V.

how can I be over voltage?? what can be going bezerk and amplifying the signal to the trans??????????? aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Bob read this, we may have over voltage issues to the trans. heading into work I am digging into my orange wire in the morning and see what it reads... getting closer,

also wondering if a '98 has the same purple wire issues where I read lots of 94/96 guys had and they pulled the TPS wireing out of the harness to eliminate transiant voltage issues????.

I cannot beleive we dont have a good sticky under the tech forums on basic trouble shooting the 47 RH/RE transmissions, starting at the TPS and working your way out to eliminate common things we know about, crazy how much digging I have had to do in old posts to get at this info.

update for anyone following along,

found the pcm on the pass firewall, then found the orange wire off the center plug, stuck the old fluke on it and I had 5. 17V with ign on, when started it read 5. 23V... . yowza to high!

hit radio schack, l found some 68,100,150,220 OHM resistors, pickings was slim! had to except the values.

ended up with the 68 OHM resistor installed, it gave me 4. 98V.

that cured the over voltage to the trans I think, it is hitting all gears clean and crisp and not going into limp mode. I cleared the computor and its staying clear of codes.

converter lockup was not working on initial test drive after I messed with the brake switch... now its locking up right and staying in... go figure it will probably blow up the next time I drive it... but in the process of checking things again today I broke the tip off the TV cable at the throttle plate... . now I get to install a new cable. :{ I also have a new brake switch coming to install.

Tps

I checked my tps idle voltage.

It was . 670...

In liu of hoggin out the tps mpunting holes I simply adjusted the throttle linkage.

1/4 " longer moved the idle voltage reading up to 1. 3 volts at idle.

Transmission is working much better!

I had to go into the cab and bend my go peddle arm to get WFO... .

I will also need to re adjust my TV cable...

At least I am on the right track!

:DOo. Oo. :D

update... . the saga continues... . about ready to pour gas all over this truck and burn it, its possessed.

been playing with the trans again as it had decided to start acting the same again... ... . started throwing codes at the trans again Over Voltage... . running a 220 ohm resistor this weekend bringing the voltage down to exactly 4. 6V. seems to like that Voltage today... ... ... ... .

also installed the new brake switch... it was still dropping the TC out once in awhile on the freeway, adjusted the brake pedal it was barely making the switch contacts and also adjusted the TPS voltage up some more, had 1. 2V almost 1. 3V when I left the driveway, trans worked great not one hiccup. also installed the new TV cable and adjusted it, double checked TPS voltage after the test drive and it was at about 1. 1V.

only bizarre deal now is when it makes it's 1-2 shift from a dead stop, it shifts real hard like a nice street strip trans should... . way to hard for a street truck, no idea what that is about it used to hit nice and tight on the 1-2,... now its going bezerk:mad:, only thing I changed was the TV cable and set TPS voltage up to keep the TC locked up,

anyway its been a real drag sorting out the electrical on this trans!, its extremely finicky about what it wants to shift right, my passenger floor looks like the resistor isle at radio shack trying to get the right one in where it will work more than 1 day at time.

peace, B.
