I've noticed my transmission going slowly south over the last few months and want to get a decent rebuild/upgrade before long. Anybody know of reputable shops around Western NC Eastern Tenn area. I am not looking for a race set-up, just a stout and reliable piece capable of doing it all within reason. It helps that the truck is stock---for now;)

Thanks,

Shea

Chip's Transmission in Sieverville (sp) TN by Dolly Wood / Glattinburg did my full DTT and I am very pleased with the work. That was 55k ago and everything works well. I would certainly recommend them. Their number is 865-654-9749 and ask for Phil and tell them Bob Weis sent you.

I'm guessing, but I had billet everything, Smart Controller, etc, if it could be done it was done. I think about $4500.

However I did it at 20k (55k ago) and was super careful about keeping DC line pressures up and Chips said there was NO damage that had to be repaired.

Best thing you can do to the transmission.

DO be aware YOU have to change fluid every 12k and DROP the pan to clean it out. BK did NOT want any filters etc on it because he wants YOU to go in every 12k and adjust the bands, visually check things, wipe it out real good etc. You can use Dextron III which keeps the $ way down vs the syn stuff.

You have to decide which major rebuilder to go to to get the best deal. I chose DTT others choose xxx or xxx or xxx, but it is one of the best things you can do.

Bob,

Any particular reason that the DTT was your choice over brands x-y-z(not looking to start a who has best one war). I notice that you note no transmission filter, why could this be a good thing? Lastly, I see that you have at least three items directly related to fuel cooling. I understand that it has the main job of cooling the VP, but is that really needed or are you working it that much at high temp? Thanks for all the info and the recommendation, thats what kind of info I am looking for.

Chip's also done my DTT transmission 70k ago very good work and extremely

good people. They will please you for sure. :D

What does someone do if they want a good transmission rebuild but not wanting to spend $4500-$5000? Not everyone out there drag races or pulls a sled...

:D

Chips is a great shop, traveling thru the area last fall, had a problem and they took care of it. They said how long it would take and completed the work on time. :)

you dont have to spend that much.

Start putting in billet parts and it goes up quick.

Good converter and valve body. Up graded rebuild kit should do you fine.

**** just have a shop that knows diesel trans. do the work. ****

Because they build 1500hp turbo mustang trans. wont do it.

just my thoughts.
