i'm looking into possibly getting an '06 ST 4x2 regular cab lwb 2500 6spd ctd.

what should i look/ask for (this will be my first new vehicle) which transmission should i want, auto over manual or visa-versa.

how is the engine in relation to fuel system and other related problems, mpg.

i want an '06 to avoid the emmisions garbage coming out later in the year.

my present truck is begining to cost too much, in repairs, eg. $1200 hg replacement, $1400 brake job, and others which are coming soon. #@$%!

i want to try and avoid getting an 1/2-ton gasser :{ if possible.

thanks for any input,

dt

I recently bought a 05 with the manual g56 and 3. 73, which I love but the manual transmission 6th gear makes your rearend more like a 4. 10 with the old nv5600. Some folks complain that this makes the rpm's too high on the freeway, do a search for g56. I tow 90% of the time so it's perfect for me.

I paid right at 30k for my slt, dually so if you shop well you should get into the high 20's I would think... .

Have you already done the hg replacement and brake job on your old truck?

DT...

This is going to be a hard question for most of us to answer, because we don't know what you want or are expecting your new truck to do.

If you don't tow heavy, a half ton gasser might be the way to go. It will get a little less MPG but it will not cost thousands of dollars extra for the privilege of owning a CTD.

If you don't mind shifting through the gears (especially "in-town" stop and go) then the 6 speed might be the way to go. It is cheaper then the automatic and cheaper to work on if you have a significant problem. I also believe the 6 speed is better for towing but there are others that don't feel this way.

If you're going to be towing heavy take a serious look at a 3500. It doesn't cost that much more and you will get better towing capacity (especially for the dually).

Figure out what you need the new truck to do and if the CTD fills the bill, go for it. I don't think you will regret it... . ;)
