I'm looking to buy a transmission in the future (1yr) and going to start doing my home now. I'm looking for people that *OWN* the product that they are recommending not people that have heard about the product or sell it!

Here is what I have and What I'm going to do with my truck.

2003 Dodge 4 door Cummins Auto 4x4. Leveling kit with 305/55/20's

I have 3. 73's gears and the motor is stock. The only things I may do in the future is to increase mileage (no major motor mods) under 400 hp.

I pull cars with a 20 ft car trailer *bumper pull* and occasionally some scrap steel (10,000 #) and under.

anyone have any recommendations?

While my truck is *NOT* a 5. 9. I have Suncoast mega 3 rebuild kit with a triple disk convertor that I have put about 3000 miles on, so far I am very pleased.

Welcome to TDR Mopardixon44!!

I may own an aftermarket transmission. Then again, I may not! Recently bought the 2005 that was a repo. With 425,000 miles I am fairly confident that the transmission has been rebuilt. Don't know by who, with what, where, or when. It does perform very well while delivering campers all over the country.

Seeing what you are doing with the truck I would highly recommend a Smarty or Smarty Jr. The difference in power and fuel economy is great. You can try one for 30 days with a money back guarantee.

Godspeed,
Trent

Mo, my friend Chris (a TDR member) has an 03 3500 SRW with a Bullydog (runs 90 hp setting) and a Goerend. He has about 190k on the truck, most with the Bullydog, and 50-60k with the trans. I love that tight torque converter! He is a very happy camper. He also has a 06 Mega Cab with a power adder and an older Ford crew cab 5 speed that is getting a 12v Cummins . He has 2 teenagers, a wife, and a playground install and maintainance business that keep him busy (and off the computer!) If you want to talk to him, PM me and I'll give you his number. Mark

I have a Goerend Triple Disk converter and his valve body as well. The first one went out for some reason... wasn't locking right( it happens). Dave offered to have one of his complete trannys shipped out to me to make it right. I just had him send out the new parts and he paid my builder to install the parts... That is what I call great service. This TC has been money ever since and I will always sing his praises for taking care of me. I own it and use it... and don't sell them. To me, service is everything and not something commonly found around here anymore.

I'm real happy with my Goerend built transmission and torque converter. Dave's super if you have questions or concerns. He doesn't answer the phone sometimes but he always calls back. I tow a lot of way to heavy for these trucks stuff, dozers, backhoes, excavators, ect. . in and out of fields pretty often, but anyway the transmission is not on my worry list at all. Highly recommend.

I lost second gear last summer and went to ATS in Colorado. I called them and explained what I do with the truck and went with their recommendation. Stage II trans with convertor. I am more than pleased with them and my truck was done in one day. In at 8AM and out at 330PM. Very nice people at the counter and doing the work. Also 5Year 500,000 mile warranty.

Give Bill or Stephen a call at DTT up in British Columbia. The support is excellent. They are some of the most knowledgeable transmission people in the business.

Take Care

Mike

I have a Goerend complete trans, 5000 miles on it and also there triple disc converter, all I can say is this truck is fantastic with the replacement trans, I recommend Dave Goereng very highly

As Mike (MFranz) just indicated and although there are a lot of worthy products out there, if you can get to a DTT facility, you certainly won't go wrong. There are none better and they can and will customize the trans to your application. Worth a look. Welcome and good luck.

Hi Mopardixon; Welcome to tdr. What a wealth of knowledge. I have an ATS transmission and have had several issues. I would not recommend them. The transmission is fine so far with about 40,000 miles on it. The problem of should I say problems are with the communications and customer service. Good luck

I have one of Dave Goerend's transmissions in my truck have put almost 50,000 miles on it with no problems. His customer service is great if you have a question someone is ther to answer it or calls you back. My truck has 19. 5 tires and puts alittle over 500hp to the ground so the transmission has been tested. Running amsoil and changeing the fluid and filter at 40,000 and fluid was still ok.

I will second the good words about the DTT people. I needed a trans quickly and they delivered, now have over 5000 on it and it seems fine. Shifts a little hard, but the TC w/ a triple disc is fantastic. Driving here in Colorado, it's like driving a sports car, instant pickup.

I just traded a 2006 six speed quad cab for a 2006 mega cab auto for the room. The truck doesn't pull near as good as the six speed. If i put a good transmission in it will it pull as good as the six speed. Using smarty on both trucks.
