I'm on the quest for some more oomph outta my 98 12v auto. I just need some advice on where to go from here to achieve 400 or so hp. These are my current mods:

Bosch 300 sticks

K&N intake

4" exhaust

3000 governor spring kit

60lb valve springs

#10 fuel plate

Goerend Built transmission w/triple disk TC, billet input & flexplate.

And of course gauges.

STOCK: intake and exh manifold, intercooler, turbo... etc.

Granted, she hasn't seen a dyno but I'm calculating it to be around 325-330hp, does that sound about right? What do y'all suggest I run to get me to where I need to be at? I'm looking for a reliable set up that doesn't send EGT's soaring to 2k degrees, or severely inhibits driveability. Cost is always an issue, but I'm willing to spend it to get it to where I want it. My eyes and ears are open.

First, you could check back issues of the TDR magazine, available on the website. There are many articles and dyno results on 12-valve engines written by myself and by others. Second, for a summary, here are some basics:

a. 300 HP injectors don't work well with out piston bowls; get 370 marine or better, special injectors from Dynomite Diesel.

b. Get a larger turbo such as the BD Super B to bring down egt and get more, cooler boost

c. Get an aftermarket 3-piece exhaust manifold as the stock one shrinks especially with a lot of heat, and will break ears off the head if not replaced

d. For the 180 HP injection pump, get a TST #5 or #4 torque plate, not the #10.

e. Proper head porting will help keep it from cracking and reduce egts.

f. A good aftermarket cam such as the one Dynomite “inherited” from Diesel Dynamics, will reduce egt's also.

g. For even more power, get a 215 HP injection pump.
