I have the brake from BD, and of course, I think it is the best:)

Coming up on eight years of use, never misses a beat, can't imagine towing without it. Powered by the factory vacuum pump, doesn't need a compressor or airtank.

Ditto on my Banks exhaust brake... powered by the engine stock vacuum pump and works wonderfully. It definitely takes the terror out of descending steep grades with a heavy travel trailer... just love it!

Be aware that if you have the 47RE automatic transmission, you'll also want something like the Banks Smartlock which causes the torque convertor to lock-up when decelerating (it normally unlocks).

I`ve had my Jacobs since 2000. Still works perfectly. A definite asset if you`re towing, or even if you`re not.

Elbow mount vs remote mount

If I did my homework I would have installed a remote mount instead of my elbow mounted BD brake. Now my options for turbo upgrades is limited by flange sizes!

I have the BD inline exhaust brake for just that reason, I can change turbo's as I please without losing my brake, Nor does it make a mess under the hood.

Many years of excellent service now with not one problem.

Pac-brake!! and with all turbo mount brakes they only fit HX-35 5 bolt flange and brakes better than under truck types.

I like te pac myself, and second mclain on the customer service/tech help. They have gone above and beyond numerous times especially considering I bought the brake used on e-bay and I told them that! Very nice cannucks up there. As opposed to another company that I am having hell with, (see my other posts) PacBrake is an outstanding group of people.

Just my 2 cents

That is the problem with the elbow mounted Jacobs limits turbos and you have to have exhaust necked down to fit. I have had the Jacobs since shortly after buying the truck new. Otherwise love my exhaust brake!!!

Can anyone recommend an exhaust brake for a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?

It seems exhaust brake owners love their brakes. I do too. I chose the Banks. As far as I can tell, it's the least restrictive when open & it brakes very well. I solved my small turbo problem with some port matching, a Dodgezilla & a Haisley street cam.

Exhaust brake and Auto Transmission

I am looking at exhaust brakes as well and was wondering if there is a problem with doing that if you have an automatic transmission?

'05 ram 2500, auto, 4x4, airlift, Edge juice w/atitude.

I had a jacobs on my '00 and believe it or not it seemed to run hotter than with my Pac. Took it off and measured I. D. and the jacobs is noticeably smaller than the Pac. So if you are already having EGT issues like I was a jacobs will make it worse. I was really pushing the limits of the stock turbo.
