Which one would be the best to get? Jacobs, Pacbrake?

Can you hook any brake up to the ECM to turn it off and on? Or is that only Jacobs?

Do they all have thermocoupler ports in them? Which one is most reliable? Easiest to install?

How much did you pay for yours?

Lots of questions, huh? :)

Thanks.

I have a PacBrake installed on my 2001 HO 6speed and love it. Vacuum operated and triggered by a limit switch off of the accelerator. On/off switch installed on lower left dash. If you aren't changing the turbo, I like the PacBrake. Unfortunately, I'm switching to an HX40 and am selling my PacBrake. Installing an in-line 4inch unit by B-D Power. I don't know about any exhaust brakes that connect to the ECM unless we're talking automatic transmission. I definitely don't want to drive without an exhaust brake!

cant vouch for Pac or BD

but I do have the Jacobsand would not be without it, there is no port for pyro but in my mind thats a non issue because pre turbo is the way to go for imediate temp monitor JMO though. Yes the Jacobs does hook up to the ECM to get its signal for activation, I do not know if the Pac or BD could use this feature or not but I would think so ??? Be warned that there is a couple second delay when you let off the throttle before the Jake is activated. Some do not like this delay but I do not mind it , infact it works good to have the delay for shifting reasons. I did read a deal that compared all 3 brakes from one of the web sites ( I think it was BD or Pac page ) that had comparisons for braking power and I do remember the Jacobs had the least amount of braking horse power but I do find mine as being sufficient for my uses. As far as prices they are all very comparable and IMHO this is not an issue just buy what you want. Go for it and you will never regret it , any of them would be an asset to own, and if you tow than I believe it is a must , we have all kinds of go but also need help on the whoe:) ... ... ... . Ex brake

I went with B-D,works into lower rpm's as you slow up. (I did ask a vendor who sold a lot of differant brakes what the good and bad of each brake was.

I installed the Jacobs myself in three easy hours; everything was included in the kit from Cummins. I paid $545, $100 cheaper than my best price from a stealer. If I remember correctly, it's pin #20 on the ECM; they provided the push pin. The hardest part is cutting the hole in the dash for the switch and connecting to the power from the cigar lighter for the little pilot lamp on the switch. I'm thinking about paralleling another connection to the solenoid valve( through a gear shift mounted switch); this connection will be activated when I apply my service brakes. This will bypass the 2 second delay and give me additional braking with my service brakes, another advantage is the brake lights will be on when the exhaust brake is activated. With this setup, I can use it either way. If you can find the push pin for the EC, it will work with any 12 vdc solenoid. Just my $. 02 worth.
