Looks like a drain plug on my G56, is it so?

I'm trying to change the fluid on my (new to me) 2008 G56 trans.

After several attempts to remove the fill plug,:mad:I ordered the 14mm allen wrench from Geno's (waiting to come in).

I noticed another plug on the bottom side (same size as fill plug) wondering if this is a drain plug. I search this forum for any mention but all were saying to use the bottom PTO cover bolt to drain.

Can anyone tell me what this plug is?

I think Genos will be here next week.

I'm wanting to take the fill plug out first, to check the level before draining.

This truck is NEW to me with 110k miles now and I don't think the tran fluid has been ever changed.

Looking to change the clutch too, this one slips when pulling hard, was looking at South Bend any suggestions?

Thanks and Happy 4th

Yes the drain plug is on the bottom and looks identical to the fill plug on the side. I used the drain plug when draining my trans. I never heard about the pto cover bolt as drain.

I haven't had to change my clutch yet, but everyone I know uses the South Bend clutches and they come highly recomended on this forum. From what I understand they have complete kits that get rid of the dual mass flywheel.

Yes that is the drain plug. You'll need a slurp pump to put the new stuff in and if you jack the right side of the truck up you can get an extra quart in which seems to be the recommendation.

Give Peter a call at Southbend and he can get you setup with they right clutch depending on what you want to do with the truck.

getting ready to change g56 & transfer case fluid next week in my '08. Go to carbonite cummins website, has article & pictures also SB clutch write up. torque on the g56 drain/fill plugs is 42 ft lbs, transfer case is 15-25 ft lbs. g56 takes 6qt +1 overfill, transfer case take 3 qt atf+4 for all. carbonite recommends anti seize for the threads? hope that isn't necessary as should be no different than oil pan drain?

Changed the oil in the tran, cool drain plug works.

I noticed that there wasn't any gasket or washer on the drain plug or fill plug.

I forced 8 qts through the fill hole and lost about 1/4 qt putting the plug back in.

Put lock tite (blue) on the threads of both plugs. Working good so far.

I changed the transfer case too but it only held 2-1/2 qts.

Pennzoil in both.

Been pulling easy with stock (I assume) clutch, it's ok for now just got to get use to down shifting on hills.

I seem to not be able to shift very well with this clutch.

It acts like it disengages as soon as you touch the pedal, way up on top????

Is this right?

Trying to hold off as long as I can for a new clutch.
