My wife took the truck for a trip to visit her family this weekend and I get a call from here when she is almost home that the truck seems to have a dead pedal, or just kinda cuts out on the interstate. She is not far from home so I tell her to just slow down and limp it home.

When she gets home I checked the codes and I am getting a P0216 and P0602. From what I have been reading this sounds like lift pump and possibly VP44. My truck is in '02 with about 80k on it. Is this something that is covered under the 7yr 100k warranty or not? Are there other things to ask the dealer about when I call them tomorrow?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Bryce

0216 injection pump (vp-44) LP is probably dead too. should be covered under warrenty. be sure they change the LP or you will need another vp-44. hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I am definitely hoping this is covered under the warranty. I am also thinking that some guages are going to be in my future so I can see a problem like this coming.

i had my Lp and VP44 changed last July under warranty. Emmissions I think. However I was just at my dealer last week and the LP change now is to put the one in the tank. which is not getting good reviews. if they can still change it on the engine i would rush out and get a vulcaan big lone kit.

So they are going to replace both pumps under warranty, but they are putting the lift pump in the tank. Are there any specific concerns I should have for this except for the next time I have to change it, it will be twice as much work.

My manual sayt the VP44 needs at least 10 psi to work properly. I went up the Grapevine-600 to 4100ft at 50 + mph in 3d. Both ways. Held 13psi fuel pressure with the Vulcan kit. Check the other threads for how the intamk kit is doing.

Ok, so they did the in the tank replacement and the fuel pump. Everything looked fine for a few days and then it started having problems when you get on the throttle. Now it is throwing the p0216 and p602 codes again.

When we picked it up they told they had to replace the fuel pump twice because the first one they put in was a dud. DC has got to do something better for these, it's ridiculous.

Going back tomorrow.

When you get it running good, go to Cummins and buy the original LP and put it back into the stock location. The intank pump acts as a pusher, and the original LP seems to live in the stock location if fed by a pusher. The result is good FP and a system that has been as reliable (so far) as other fuel system solutions.
